By another buffet. Have the abuting edges centered on the mirrors. One lamp on each end.

Do you have room on the other wall for a storage cabinet?

Great suggestion, Jill. They do not make that existing buffet anymore and I can't really afford to get 2 new ones. and Beverly no, sadly, I do not have room on the other wall. It's in front of the walkway and I have an 11" deep console there that is about all that can go on that wall.

I think the pictures/frames look good, they reflect the black of the chandelier - at least, they look good in the photo.

Perhaps a couple of console tables in a similar style, flanking the buffet?

Can you rotate your table to make more room for the walkway? Measurements of your room and furniture might spur more ideas. And photos of the other side of the room too.

What about taking the stuff off the wall down and installing long shelving above the furniture piece or building a built in wall of shelving and framing it out and painting to blend with wall? or some sort of baskets with lids on either side of buffet to store things.

There is really no space on the console wall that won’t block the doorway to the hall. I’m already pushing it with the console. The table is centered and has to stay. And the kitchen is across from the wall in question. Open floor plans are tricky!

Maybe some wicker trunks?

Shift the buffet closer to the window and add a second piece of storage furniture to the wall. Remove the console.

Can you find another room to put the buffet in? I'd replace it with a hutch or china cabinet. That's what those are for anyway.

I prefer the buffet over hutch.

The problem with a buffet is that it only has storage on the bottom, and this is presenting a problem to the OP.

I need a lot more info and you need to find space for stuff not needing to be displayed IMO get a much longer buffet type piece get rid of the mirror which is awful relecting the stuff that does not need to be seen twice. Tell us what uyou absolutely need to store in thta space I would not do an armoire in an already small space and either remove the rug or you need a larger one, those chairs need to be able to be pulled out and still be on the rug. If you go wider buffet then the art is hung much better above the buffet . I rarely like mirrors in DRs since no one really wants to watch themselves eat. I think adding other small pieces will not look great but if you cannot do a bigger buffet then how can you afford 2 smaller pieces ? The idea of rebuilding a whole wall of storage is expensive too. Maybe for now just put the art over the buffet take the mirror away and save to get the right pieces . I also do not like family photos in public space so maybe those can go to a hallway or somehwere else and honestly the pieces you have there do not look like things you use often so use those shelves for things that have to be there .. A nice larger piece of art when you can afford it too. There is IMO no huge rush to do a space think about things you have to have and IMO a much wider buffet would be my first buy

Can any items in these cabinets be moved elsewhere - shelves in your laundry room, a storage cabinet in basement or garage? That would be my first choice.

If keeping the room as is, I feel both areas feel very lined up and if interested, experiment and look on line for ideas that appeal to you. The space is so airy and modern and aim to reflect in your choices.

Try mirror over console or the two prints (the black frames work fine in room with your chandelier and mirror). Consider similar frames in a grouping with height variations and add one of your lamps. On lower shelves, group some items.

Regarding the sideboard, whatever you decide to do, suggest only one lamp. If using the prints, center, and if buying art make sure it is proportionate. If using mirror, suggest a floor plant in corner to add some weight/balance and accessorizing will add some interest and personality (duplicating the feel with a centrepiece).

Thank you everyone for all the great suggestions.. We downsized and moved this furniture from another home, so it’s a bit of a struggle making our current furnishings work in this AZ home, which has no basement. Garage storage is tough because of the high temps. I shall pare down, and in the meantime experiment with other art arrangements as Maureen suggested.

In regards to heat, consider moving small appliances that aren‘t used often, large roasting pots and bowls, etc from other cupboards into garage and use that freed up cupboard space for your food, as it seems like you are storing food there…. but this all depends if you have room in garade for shelving. (Hope this might help eliminate the need for extra storage in dining room.)

Here in AZ heat is indeed problematic for garage storage. We also have little creeping, crawling and flying pests, so open storage is not a great idea. One may not be delighted by finding a scorpion in the crockpot.

If you really require storage, that console table doesn't get you an inch closer to meeting your needs.

I'd replace it with something that could still showcase all those photos, or place the photos on picture ledges

The vintage glass door cabinets from Henredon that are modular could provide your with 9 feet of storage. They often have storage at the bottom and display with lights at the top. You easily have the room for this piece in the dining room.
