The Perfect Couple

The post about the house on Nantucket brought to mind the new Netflix miniseries, The Perfect Couple, which is set on Nantucket. It is based on the Elin Hilderbrand novel by the same name. I read the novel sometime ago - long ago enough that I can’t remember the story line.

Anyone watching it? Is it good?

I liked the book so watched the series last week. I’d give it 2.5 stars out of 5. The show was confusing at times.

The opening dance scene is fun.

We watched it last week, over two days. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.

    2.5 stars sounds about right.

We watched an episode, maybe two, but really didn’t care enough to watch more.

It was meh. I never read the book and the show was reminiscent of a 1980s miniseries or nighttime soap in my opinion.

I too read the book some time ago and liked it but find the movie confusing to follow at best.

I'm a fan of Elin's books, having spent a fair amount of time on Nantucket. It's always fun to follow along locales you are familiar with.

I watched the series over a few days. I'd agree on 2.5 out of 5. The series differed alot from the book, adding characters and sort of changing the whole plot. I like Nicole Kidman but I thought she overacted in this role. And her wig was really distracting!

We were just discussing Netflix options over supper with my mother in law and said she wouldn't recommend the series. We usually have the same taste. She did say she watched a series with Bill Pullman that was good and was recommended for viewers who didn't like the perfect couple.

There was a cute review in the paper mostly about the decor and the throw pillow budget so I had to watch ;D

I agree with the 2.5 out of 5. Full discosure - I can't stand Nicole Kidman. I don't know why but she elicits a visceral reaction for me. Her hideous wig aside, I found the series to be dragging - I think they could have easily told the whole story in an hour or two.

My daughter liked the book (they read it in her book club) while ago. However, my "book queue" has become a bit long - so, it's been at the bottom of a stack of quite a few other books.

I wasn't able to sleep one night last weekend - so, I decided to put it on - and did a little "movie marathon" (seemed like the appropriate word to use even though it's a limited series).

I thought that the opening dance scene (kind of reminded me of a little "flash mob" - but at a wedding rehearsal dinner) was fun also.

It was okay - I'm assuming that the book was better.

Fun fact of the movie. The actress who played the soon-to-be bride is Eve Hewson and she is the daughter of Bono.

I watched it, finished it last night and agree with the 2.5 rating. I've never liked watching Nicole Kidman since she got some kind of "chin job" in Big Little Lies. The only character I found good and funny, was the Detective, her one-liners were hilarious.

I kind of liked the housekeeper, who was a snob. Complaining about a guest, she said something like ”She brought her dishes to the sink. Like a poor person.”

I am stuck at home for awhile (and my current average screen time is something I would NEVER reveal to anyone) but I have been watching anything and everything, including this mini series. Like so many other made for video dramas it could be titled People Behaving Badly. So much of their behavior is outre and ridiculous, but the stunt that took the cake (ring the bell) IMO is the scene in which Dakota fanning and her gigolo husband steal the wedding cake, the erstwhile groom objects and a food fight ensues. I would expect to hear dogs order lunch in French before I would imagine real people to act like that. So I would give it 1.5 stars with the house getting top billing over any of the actors’ performances, which alternated between pallid and hyperactive.
