The thing that screams pseudo-Mediterranean is the portico, so that is where I would contemplate change. Maybe replace it with something lower and wider that connects the masses on either side and is more porch like. Since it looks like you live in the Southwest, heat and sun control are concerns. Also the windows would look better without the grids, which can often just be removed. This will be a big, expensive project that will really benefit from the talents of a good architect

You might need to replace the double windows by the entrance to accommodate a lower porch roofline

Maybe consider “modern hacienda” instead of “modern farmhouse”. It really is that tacked on lawyer foyer that is overwhelming the house.

Agree that the portico is the first problem (good suggestions in here) and landscaping - or lack thereof - is the second.

The massing of your house doesn't lend itself to modern farmhouse. It would take major changes to the layout to achieve a farmhouse look which means major money. Otherwise, would suggest you embrace the current style and make the most of it.

Minimize the portico by getting rid of the capitals. Only 1 column and make it straight and unadorned. Get rid of the grids on the windows.

The window style and placement is not farmhouse friendly. So changing the columns and portico is still not giving you the vibe you want. Can you specify exactly which elements are a real turn-off for you? That might help the pros and definitely something you should be able to discuss with an architect.

If you want a "modern farmhouse", then sell this house and buy another.

Or move on from the modern farmhouse trend and spend the money inside, so you have high quality design, finishes, furniture and art. Visitors (and residents) don't spend time outside the front of the house ... they are inside.

The only thing you need to do outside, is work with a landscape architect to come up with a hardscape and landscape plan to improve the curb appeal.

Just because the house is white and black doesn't make it 'farmhouse'

I separated your front entry from the general house roof.

Selecting a white paint color that isn't so very bright could make the house more interesting IMO.

You want a modern farmhouse get a new house honestly this will never be that without a complete redo of the exterior . I agree the portico screams med and so do the arched windows I think the roof line could lend itself to a more modern vibe but the stucco will not . You have to decide on how much money you wsnt to throw at this house

Asking how to get a modern farmhouse out of the house you have is like asking how to turn a pickup into a sports car. You can add sports car features to your pickup and maybe to a bit of bodywork, but it's never going to look like a sports car. You should pick some inspiration that is a hell of a lot closer to what you have.

We’re on acreage and the front yard is huge, so we’ve been slowly adding landscaping. I like the idea of adding the concrete steps and more hardscaping. I’ll take all of your advice and scrap the farmhouse idea. Removing the capitals from the portico and changing out the windows sounds like our best bet

Your front yard (driveway, hardscape & landscaping) can definitely be improved, but it will be a pricey project.

You have a beautiful home, I can understand wanting to create a farm house. Makes me think of all the houses that Joann Gaines has transformed into a modern farmhouse.

Depending on your budget, I think removing the portico, changing the windows and changing the siding migh really go a long way towards changing the exterior. But this may be a huge expense for what looks like a very nice house as is. Meet with an architect for ideas to create a space you will enjoy.

I suggest adding eye-catching, drought-resistant bougainvillea along the plantable area or in pots where it can be trained up the columns. Many colors are available. It will take a few years for bougainvillea to take off in size. If you choose to train it up the columns, look for a less thorny variety so guests won't brush up against thorns.
