@BeverlyFLADeziner I have to get a new sofa one of my dogs has ruined this one. and i was looking for a way to brighten the room and add more color is why i was thinking of adding blue sofa:/

I have a feeling the living room should be in the room with the most light and the dining should be closer to the kitchen (assuming the door leads to it).

@User its not our family living room. this area is when you first walk into the house. you would step down and be in the kitchen which has a smaller table off to the side of that then it opens into the family living room

Have you already purchased the blue couch? Given the combination of wall color, floor tiles and art, I think you may run into an issue. As well, complementary rugs are only going to create more of a jarring disconnect.

You mentioned your aim is to lighten and add color and I’d do that by rug choices, accessories, and cushions. Additionally, painting (same color as wall treatment in dining room) will really lighten the space/feel refreshing. Suggest a soft green couch, light rugs with a contemporary feel (can be the same or close style wise). Consider the overall effect vs choosing in isolation. If you bought the couch, think how best to tie the space.
