Planting layout

last year

For years I've been planting mounding tidal wave petunias or supertunias in a curved row in front of a (sort of) bay window. I decided a few months ago that I would plant Dolce Wildberry Huechera there, either this fall or next spring. I have not yet done so, but am still happy with that decision. Then I saw this post on Garden Answer and I do love this combination. I suppose the violas would only bloom for a few weeks, but how would you lay out this combination? A row of ferns in the back? Or intersperse the ferns with the heuchera? For me it's somehow easier to visualize the combination in a pot than in the ground.

BTW. This is the north side of the house, out in the country parallel to our long driveway. It gets a fair amount of sun for several hours of the day, especially afternoons in the summer. The petunias have always done well there and Dolce Wildberry Heuchera are supposed to do well with quite a bit of sun. The Crested Surf ferns supposedly take half sun, which might be alright there. The violas say part to full sun, so they should work in that regard.

BTW. That's a tree form peegee hydrangea in the background, which has never gotten very big or kept its tree form very well, but I'm planning to leave it there for now.
