Hang curtains from the top of the wall that hit the floor and treat it like a large window if it is not a regularly used point of entry and exit. if it gets used frequently, install a roman shade over the window section.

I also recommend that you paint the bottom of the soffit the wall color so it is not highlighted.

When you say "cover it" do you mean the entire door? If you are meaning the glass portion of it I would suggest that whatever window treatment you use on the windows you repeat on the door.

I want to cover the actual door, as the door is unsightly and looks out of place in the bedroom.

I was thinking of getting a tension rod for the smaller window and hanging cafe curtains.

Cafe curtains, at least to me, feel more suitable for a kitchen. I’d treat both windows the same and if you paint the door the same color as walls, it will be less noticeable.

Do you use the door? If so, then a nice shade and paint the door and trim same color as your walls.

You could also do a door curtain, although I think you might lose too much light

You can always get a peel and stick frosting for the glass if you want the privacy but keep the light.
