Is it possible to turn the door around, so that the brown streaks that you don't like are on the inside?

Personally the brown streaks don't bother me nearly as much as the pink.

The easiest thing to do might be to order a new door (assuming you can do that).

What wood species is that? There is such a mishmosh of colors on the very stripy door, it looks like a combo of trash pieces from different species were used. Some are pink, some yellow, some light tan. Those bother me more than the small knotty dark marks.

It's cherry. They are brand new and the color will mellow out in a couple of months.

Brown markings? That's nothing compared to those fat pink stripes. That door is horrible and unacceptable, that's one of the worst wood cabinets I've seen on this forum. I have cherry cabinets in the basement, yes they did change color over the course of a couple months but they looked nothing like that when they were brand new. Do you have any recourse with Costco? If they won't do anything, can you dispute the charge on your credit card?

Flip the door, fill the screw holes with matching color wood filler, you won’t notice them after a day and it will look much nicer.

I too thought the fat pink stripes were what you'd be posting about. Even if the wood is going to "mellow" there are still going to be huge stripes in it.

I can also see why the brown flecks would drive you nuts, but sounds like you have no recourse.

If you turn it upside down the brown streak would be where a long chunky handle could be placed…otherwise think about using the reverse side w good hole filling… let a skilled person do it. Id probably wait tho… i dont mind it. you could paint it to have a white pantry .

if the brown segment bothered me I'd flip it to the handle side and search out a crafty backplate..... not sure how long they come...you can probably cover quite a bit of the longer streak. If not.....chunky long cabinet pull ......enough . comments about the quality generally Im not sure is worth the focus right now. Ive spoken to a couple people about their Costco cabinetry and never heard anything but positives.

The pink isn't ideal but doesn't bother me much. I'd consider reversing the door but the hinges are inset so the hole is larger than a quarter. Hopefully the brown spots won't stick out so much once the wood darkens. I sent an email with the photos asking if there is something they can do. Other than this one door looking dirty I'm very happy with the cabinets. My installer said they are better than what he typically installs.

If it is cherry, the color will change quite a bit. So at least wait several months before doing anything.

It looks terrible and I understand why you hate it. I'd at least contact the manufacturer and see if they're willing to replace. Doesn't hurt to let them know of your dissatisfaction.

From the Cherry Wood Species description on the Tuscan Hills website:

To answer your question, yes, you're overreacting. This stuff grows on trees. Give it some time and UV exposure please.

Who cares what the fine print says, email with a picture and ask for a new door. Let them know you are dissatisfied and that it makes you unhappy everyday to see it in your kitchen. Who cares what the fine print says, ya gotta try. They don’t want an unhappy customer.

So you guys actually think big pink uniform-width stripes are acceptable?!? You've got to be kidding. YES there is variation in wood, everyone knows that -- but these stripes are too uniform, it's like someone was trying to make a wallpaper pattern out of the boards -- let's see...ooh I know let's do two boards regular, one board pink, that looks like a good ratio! Natural variation in wood is RANDOM -- this pink-striped monstrosity is at the hands of a human or at the very least lack of quality control by a human who isn't blind.

one can order cherry cabinets finished with a UV inhibitor and a medium stain....that is , IF you want cherry and minimal surprises / not sure about the specs at Costco .. If you order natural cherry you are at the mercy of nature in its raw form and then time and its effects... whats shown is acceptable for what the customer requested or didnt take the time to research and specify or go elsewhere to be exacting about specs. I'd have no problem w whats shown but not sure I'd select this..... the surprise that she got RE one door in proportion to everything probably is NOT Unacceptable..... Hate is a strong word / I see no reason to hate it.

@herbflavor I hate that the clear side faces inwards and the brown spots are on the outside. Someone grabbed this door and decided to put the hinges on the better side. This makes no sense to me. I'm hoping once the wood darkens the spots aren't so noticeable. Otherwise I like the variations.

Wait... have you tried contacting Costco about it? Granted, I’ve never ordered cabinets through them, but I have ordered a fair amount of other large ticket items from them over the decades and I’ve never had an issue with them resolving things when needed. I would at least try that. I am a bit surprised that door made the cut of acceptable, though I wouldn’t mind those flecks at all... natural character in my mind... but I do think you have reason to question them on it.
