HELP with paint color!

We have just completed the kitchen in our new apartment above a “barn/garage.” I am looking to paint an accent wall in the living area that is adjacent to the kitchen (open concept). The other walls in the space are SW Gossamer Veil with SW Pure White ceiling and trim, the kitchen cabinets are painted SW Retreat, the interior doors are SW Tarnished Trumpet.

I am considering painting the accent wall a darker shade of green and purchased a sample container of SW Pewter Green (one down on the SW 6000 color block). I painted a large piece of cardboard with the sample paint. While comparing the small swatches it looks much darker than Retreat, when I look at it in the room the difference is much less obvious. The accent wall is exposed to lots of natural light due to loads of windows on the opposite eastern wall and the adjacent southern wall. I think that is why the color difference is less noticeable. Because I would like the accent wall to appear darker than the cabinets, I have also considered SW Rock Bottom which is so dark it may appear more charcoal than green but that might not be bad. Hopefully the attached pictures will give you an idea of what I am describing. Any suggestions/ideas would be appreciated... I am hoping to stay with SW but if the perfect color is not SW, I'm open to alternatives. I know that I could start with the lighter green and go darker if needed but with the cost of paint and my current burnout state with this project, I'd like to get it right the first time.

I would leave the walls the color thats on them now. The island bothers me. It somehow doesnt look like it belongs in that kitchen. I would paint it the color of the cabinets, and leave the walls all light. Once you put in some accent color in art, and accessories, it will look very nice.

Thank you for the recommendations. I agree the dark wood on the island shows poorly in picture but husband really wanted an walnut island. Paint colors come and go but walnut is timeless was his reasoning. Painting over the walnut is not an option and it is warmer and less contrasting in person. We also have a walnut dinning table and chairs so it will look less disjointed fully finished. Fabric bar stools will also help.

The room is over saturated with natural light. I was hoping a darker wall would warm up the space.

I would go with SW Naval

I have an accent in a couple of rooms with Navy, love it, and it goes nicely with your green.

Jan’s green looks more like a forest green than I prefer. Rock Bottom looks so pretty with the stained wood I would try a painted sample in your space. I agree that your other furniture will help the island belong. Congrats on the gorgeous space you are creating.

JAN MOYER thanks for posting the pictures and the links. Your custom color looks lovely on both walls. It looks similar to the SW Pewter Green. It makes me think that the darker Pewter Green would work in my space. I could also make the accent wall the same color as the cabinets... like you did. It really does look nice!

lisaam thanks for the kind words and recommendation. I will get a sample of the Rock Bottom and paint it directly on the wall along with the Pewter Green I already have. Assess how they compare throughout the day and at night with our "smart" artificial lighting before making a final decision. We have lots of lighting options with Lutron Caseta smart switches/dimmer and recessed lights with warm color temps including a couple of wall washers for the planned artwork on the accent wall..

I love your colors! Do you have pics of your artwork and furniture? I'm thinking the darker Rock Bottom might go nicely with your dark countertops.
