Cut off the stems, knock the dirt off, put them in a box and place them in the coolest part of your basement.

Yes.

I live in Colorado, zone 5a. I cut mine down in late October, leave them in the pots, put the pot in the garage with a tarp over it so they don't get any light. I ignore them until April. In April I put the pots in a little trailer, pull it outside, water them. I do pull the wagon back into the garage on cold days and nights, then they go out during the day. This goes on until late May. They start growing in the pots again. Sometimes I will take them out of the pot and divide into other pots for more.

Interesting popmama….so I followed what the previous posters had said and put them in a box in my basement. The pots they were in were concrete and too heavy to move. My concern was how early in spring I’d have to put them in a pot to get them started. In Minnesota we have such a short growing season, I’m afraid it will take til the end of summer before they flower! I think I’m going to have to start them in pots early like you said. Thx!
