Assuming they are being left outside, you shouldn't have to water them at all. Typically, fall and winter rains will take care of any watering needs - minimal at best - during this period of inactivity.

I live in a very dry summer climate and grow ALL of my garden in containers. I water frequently during the summer months but once the temps cool and fall rains begin, I don't water again until mid to late spring when things start to heat up and dry out.

Just don't let the pots dry completely.
