I think if the finish is great I would leave it alone and stsrt with a colorful front door MCM style with a garage door in the same type style and this for inspiration for both door and garge door style and the landccping is awesome since most of it can be anything that grows wherre you are and if you want fake grass too . IMO once all of that is done the house will look just fine . If you love the PS MCM homes maybe think of a fab color for accent in the entry

What color was it before re-stuccoing? The white may just take some getting used to. It's certainly in keeping with the current Palm Springs look.

Are you positive the stucco has fully cured (can take up to 90 or so days)? I don’t mind the color coming through in the pictures you posted, so if it’s not done curing, maybe wait and see?

Neat house. Re: updates that honor MCM, I would budget/ plan for a new garage door.

You can't do much about the whiter windows, but you could paint the fascia/soffit in the same color as the stucco. The two whites don't look great next to each other.

Thank you everyone for the thoughtful input. We do plan on a new garage door, probably next year. In the meantime, painting the fascia/garage door is included in our original contract, so we need to pick a color for those. It sounds like painting them a similar color as the white is better than going with something contrasty?

Regarding the door-I would love to do a fun statement door. However, we like having the metal security door in front. We love leaving our front door open with the security door for airflow and we don’t have to worry about kids/dogs running out and anything else running in. Any suggestions for some cool MCM security doors that aren’t tacky would be appreciated.

Our house used to be a dark grayish blue. They put a heavy scratch coat over it and then two layers of stucco so I would be surprised if it was somehow showing through. It probably is not done curing yet but as it does dry, I dislike it even more.

I’ll attach a before photo for reference-I hate to say it but I am almost missing what it used to look like! Too late now :-)

I’ll also attch a photo of my inspiration-minus the black fascia. I like it on the inspiration photo but I don’t think its right for our house.

The white is fine. What's not so great is that the garage takes up almost the same visual space as the house itself. That means you need to draw the eye to the front door as Patricia suggests. Then spend some of your budget on making a beautiful front garden on the house side. It will make a huge difference in how the house looks and feels. Add plantings along the garage to minimize that expanse of wall along the garage. This house doesn't have the big garage, but notice the pretty front door, portico, house numbers, plantings, walkway that give the house character.

I feel better about the decision for white but will probably proceed with Fog Coating to a different tone of white. All these things combined I am feeling less terrified that I made an $18,000 mistake.

Any thoughts on color for the trim/garage?

IMO the same color for the trim with a white house

I don't know what fog coating is, but I would put the money into fantastic hardscaping (walkway mainly in natural tones, but some as part of landscaping with native plants) instead of adjusting the white. You would need a landscape designer for this.

You currently have high contrast pointless green lawn against the white, which highlights the problem you think you have. Changing the landscaping to something more varied and natural will make you less bothered about the current white, which is totally fine.

I just added a bunch of photos to my MCM Ideabook that popped up when I did a search for "white stucco MCM." Some have trim, some don't. If you do trim, coordinate with roof color. Again, landscaping is the key to enhancing the look of your house, not fog coating.

I agree with you on landscaping! I will lean heavily into that as much as possible. Speaking of the turf, do you think that i should round out the edges like in the example photo with the yellow door to soften it? A lot of people have told me to leave it square. I’ve even toyed with havihg my turf guy cut back the grass a bit to make the rock border bigger. Our front yard is bigger than our back and the kids play in the front so trying to balance functionality with aesthetics. I plan on planting a row of Lomandra Shorty in the rock border along the front.

What does the stucco look like in bright sunshine? Is the front of your house north facing?

I think you should curve your rocks in the front. That will soften the look of the turf.

It is north/north east. It definitely changes colors easily which I imagine any white would do but regardless I’d like to warm it up because right now it feels like we live in an igloo. I dont know much about LRV but sounds like I need to know!

Many midmod houses accentuate the horizontal. If you did your trim in a contrasting color, it would look really good. Maybe a darker baby blue?

I spoke with a rep from the line of stucco that was used and he offered a lot of useful information that I really wish I would have known to begin with.

According to him, I can choose any sample of white from anywhere-meaning i can go and choose a Sherwin Williams color of white that is tried and true and have the company match the Stucco color to that. It’s frustrating that my contractor did not offer that guidance, but live and learn.

Knowing that, what are the best exterior paint off-whites that will be warm and creamy without being yellow or too stark white?

Be careful with your landscaping, since this is also your kids play area. Rocks, and other sharp objects, can be very dangerous, when kids are playing and running, and not watching out where they are going. You may want to do something a bit softer there, so if a child falls, they are less likely to be injured.

Talk to a grarage door company about removing the decorative trim from the windows and maybe replacing a panel with some strategically placed windows

I love that idea and i specifically love Bougainvillea so maybe considering that. We had a lot of century plants with very sharp ends that we removed so will definitely be putting in some softer landscaping. Thank you!

Update: It’s hard to tell in this picture but they fog coated the house to a much warmer off-white that i like so much more. It does still need to dry/cure, but overall feeling much better about it.

I need help picking a color for the fascia/garage. I dont want to draw attention to either with anything dark/bright but I would like to do something a shade or two darker in a color that will compliment the warm white and that won’t cause anymore of the yellow tones to pop out.

Any recs appreciated!

A few of my inspiration photos: I’d like to get a new door and do a soft shade of orange. Eventually will get a new garage door-even toyed with the idea of doing a fun color with the new garage door (second to last photo) but afraid it will be too much for our house. I also like the look of a warm-wood garage door (last photo).

While I am not a huge fan of gray, I could be into a warm greige. I like this color palate on this home.

I personally prefer the garage door to be the same color as the house. The orange door would look great.

Re those fan-like inserts on your garage door windows, I had similar at my previous home, just popped them out myself, super easy, looked much better without them. Our home was very contemporary. BTW, when fund$ allow I would consider making your front walkway to your front door much wider, something like large poured in place pavers or modern ADA compliant pavers, it will give your entrance ”presence”. ( or, importance, something along those lines ?)

Moving on from the house color dilemma, we need to pick a fascia/garage door color. The color im leaning towards is SW Accessible Beige (the tile thats in the middle of ghe garage door). Slightly darker, so hopeflly will give subtle contrast. Thoughts?
