Your kitchen designer should create the shop drawings, and they should follow them.

Who is speccing everything in the kitchen (colors, materials, hinges, clearances, appliances, etc) You or someone else?

You will need a whole lot more than just pictures. You need measured diagrams. Or exploded parts diagrams if they don't understand how to extrapolate from a standard measured diagram with section details. Cabinet makers do not design. They follow the diagrams given to them. SO the diagrams have to be ultra accurate.

I am not using a designer, I’m choosing the specs myself. I already know the basics (widths, how many cabinets, how many drawers, and where it will all go) I’m trying to figure out the language to use to make sure he understands the look we are going for. I’m not expecting him to design anything.

For instance, the doors in devol cabinets are recessed into the cabinet. The doors don’t sit on top. That’s one think I like about them. But I’m assuming there is a name for that ? Thanks for helping !

Yes that’s called flush inset. But please do a lot more research before you get these cabinets built. There is a lot of technical work that goes into a great kitchen, and a mediocre kitchen costs about the same. I recommend the book Kitchen Think as a good resource for you, obviously there are many others.

Read read read. Go touch lots of kitchens. Model homes. Displays at box stores. You need to get the details of the style down pat as well as the basics of good kitchen design.

No kitchen designer is going to be a very expensive disaster regret here. You don't know what you don't know.
