Favorite pink daylilies

last year
last modified: last year

Please show us your favorite pink daylilies. It’s really windy here today, a bit tricky to do the yard clean up I need to do. I brought home some 50% off plants from my local nusery yesterday and got them all planted…..no daylilies.

A new addition to the garden with first blooms, Ruffled Masterwork, Great so far.

Neon Flamingo, love the color.

It’s a Pink Teddy, is a great performer, has rebloomed for me in the past.

Banshee Whisper has had great increase, trouble free.

Belle Cook a nice oldie for the front of the border.

Nice pinks! Belle Cook is my favorite of these.

Here are 5 of our pinks.

Buddy's Pinkie is one of the few narrow-petaled toothies we have.

We consider ourselves lucky because Candy-coated Confection was a bonus plant. It has become one of our favorites.

Heavenly Be My Valentine is a late bloomer.

Heavenly Lovers' Lane is quite large.

Je Suis Charlie might become my favorite pink is it performs well. It was buried in weeds the last couple of years but has been moved now.

    That's all for me.

Sherry, I love Banshee Whisper and Neon Flamingo. Such great colors and form.

Nancy, Heavenly Lovers' Lane is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the design, form, colors etc. Je Suis Charlie is also quite pretty.

Castle Pinkney is such an incredible bloomer year after year.

    I really love Chance Encounter.

Beryl Quinn is an unusual color. It is usually a dark pink but can vary.

Chance Encounter x Full Grown is one of my favorite seedlings.

VT Rose Rosy, a great late and good for hybridizing.

Nancy - I do like the looks of Heavenly Lovers Lane.

Brad - Chance Encounter X Full Grown is my favorite of your pinks.

    Here are some of mine:

Bubblegum Delicious was always one of my favorite pinks. I dug it early to have it ready for the move, but it died in the extreme August heat.

Bubblegum Queen is doing well here, and it has Bubblegum Delicious as one of the parents. So I still have the genetics to work with. I have three good-sized clumps of this, and I look forward to seeing how it performs in Indiana. Unfortunately it doesn't like being divided, 0r moved so it may be a couple of years until it will perform well here.

Judy's Jewel X Bubblegum Queen #1 was one of my best performing pink seedlings last year. It multiplies well, had 18 buds last summer and rebloomed. Visitors to the garden always commented on it. However, it is an evergreen, so I fear it won't fare as well here.

Judy's Jewel X Bubblegum Queen 2 was short last year. The first year it bloomed it was 28 inches tall, but last year it was only 24 inches. I don't know it the grubs got to it or the harsh winter caused the shorter scapes. It also had fewer buds last year. However, it did rebloom. It's a semi-evergreen.

Pink Extraordinaire X $exy Samantha #3 is always a favorite pink. It's an evergreen, and I don't have it planted in a sheltered place, so I don't know what its future will be.

Pink Aloha X Bubblegum Queen #2

    The Color of Wonderful

    Grandma's Smile X Bubblegum Delicious

    Ruth Watkins Davidson

    Sweet Child of Mine

    Divas in Diamonds

    $exy Samantha X Bubblegum Delicious 1

Grandma's Smile X Dearest Valentine was my best performing pink, and the best performing plant in my entire garden. It had bud counts from 16-30 and rebloomed well despite hot, dry conditions.

Its great to hear you brought those lovely pink seedlings with you. Its hard to pick a favorite but at the top is the Pink Aloha seedling. I hope they all do well for you…..I have evergreens that do well here…hoping yours do well.

Debra, you have so many pretty pink seedlings. I hope they like their new home in Indy.

Sherry, Brad and Nancy - Thanks for the comments on the pink seedlings. The majority of my best seedlings are evergreen, and I didn't have enough sheltered spots for them all. Pink Aloha X BQ2 and Grandma's Smile X Bubblegum Delicious did get planted next to the house. I hope the others will do OK where they are planted. Luckily, we've had warmer weather until this week, so they've had several weeks to settle in and grow some new roots. I'm hoping there won't be a hard freeze for a couple more weeks since I'm still planting semi-evergreen and dormant daylilies.

A third of the registered daylilies I brought with me are evergreen. Perhaps that's crazy to test so many. But they were my top favorites.

I might as well get in on the pink parade.

    CHANCE ENCOUNTER: A consistent performer

FASHIONAIRE: A favorite Bennett intro throwing a polytepal bloom.

    HUSH LITTLE BABY

    AIN'T SHE NICE

BIG HEARTED LADY: Another Bennett pink which is climbing the ranks and probably a top 10 plant.

WREN'S SONG: Tall scapes and well budded.

SUCH A FLIRT: Arrived in the Spring. This is a Ginny Pearce intro. I do like her plants. I purchased it because to my eye it has a diploid look for a tetraploid. It is probably the white midribs that make me think that, since so many of the Bennett intros have a white midrib (LOL).

    TRULY ANGELIC: Fantastic plant.

    That is all from me.

Nice pinks, David. Hard to narrow it down, but my favorites are Big Hearted Lady [WOW!], Chance Encounter, and Wren's Song.

David - I'm also a fan of Big Hearted Lady. Your photo of Wren's Song is nice. You say it had tall scapes, but it's only registered as being 25 inches tall. How tall does it get for you?

    Debra,

I've had WREN'S SONG reach 33 inches rather consistently. I had it planted in the front row, only to have to move it two rows back.
