TV over the FP is too high. Can you remove the wood storage side of the FP? Would the FP be centered? I would do something to the white paint it needs some toning down.

The fireplace/surround looks phony. Wall vent for fireplace indicates there is no chimney.

If you closed up that window could you patch the exterior such that no one would ever know there used to be a window there? What is the exterior cladding? If that can't be done, leave the window. I'm not sure what you would gain by getting rid of it.

The window can be closed and the outside patched with the same matching siding we have, no issues there.

This is real stone, not fake brick. Maybe we should paint it a softer white?

You’re right, the TV is too high. We are actually cutting the stone on top and lowering it down over a foot and are planning to add a long reclaimed wood mantelpiece.
If we remove the right side of the FP it still wouldn’t be centered unfortunately. I don’t have a big budget to redo the whole thing so I’m trying to work with what I have. I just don’t know what to do with that wood storage opening!

Do you know what the natural stone looked like? I agree the white paint on the stone isn't visually pleasing...maybe the actual stone would look better. I would consider filling the wood storage section with wood logs, especially if you plan to do a reclaimed wood mantle.

I don't see what closing the window helps. I think it's not that unusual for the firebox to be off center and demo is fairly cheap so reducing all the WHITE by getting rid of the right side of the stone fireplace is where I would go first.

IMO you should have left the stone unpainted and yes I would remove the window it makes no sense. As for the wood box I think i would just fill with those bundles of birch you can buy it realy can't do much else unless you remove the mantel recover the whole thing up to the ceiling and put the TV besdie the firebox There is no room for tV above the mantel for sure as it is now.

Keep the window (no need to spend money on that).

Rip out all that stone and do a new fireplace surround that is proportional to the size of the room. Hopefully you can get some more of the same flooring to patch that area. Place your TV to the right of the new, and much smaller, fireplace surround.

From my perspective I see nothing being gained by removing the window, just a lot of money that could be used elsewhere.

Its a shame someone painted over that. The white is a bit strong. I would repaint it.

Can you figure a way to put the tv alongside the fireplace? Fill in the opening and mount the tv?

I don't know what distance is required between the tv and the fireplace - that may determine the size you could put there.

Then just save up until you can tear it out and redo it. I would get a quote now, just so you know what your target is for that job.

I would not remove the window but i would surely start saving money for a whole new fireplace. So often we see someone suggesting painting a brick or stone fireplace, and this is the result. Start over , but get some input into what fireplace would be pleasing to you and would suit your space.
