Seeking designer help on primary suite

last year
last modified: last year

Hello! We have a large primary suite in the second story of our 1.5 story 100-year-old Tudor. Because of our growing family, I would LOVE to somehow turn this space into two bedrooms, but I'm stuck on how do to that. Do any experts out there have advice on doing so in a cost-effective way? Or be willing to do a quick markup? Current layout attached!

No one can work from what you have supplied. Is that the basement or the upper floor? No one knows if the staircase is up or down.

Because of the building code, each room will likely have to be a certain number of square feet, a closet and a window for egress. Call in a local contractor.

Measurements in feet are needed, but I don’t see how you will divide the space into two rooms. The spaces behind the staircase landing are too small for a bed.

Honestly........ I wish everyone would get OFF these annoying, sky view, very UN helpful computer programs.!

We need: The walls, the windows, the entry points, any attached bath....

In black and white, on "paper" . Flat and two dimensional. Sorry for the rant, but none are helpful to anyone.

I'd start by recognizing you'll have a shared bathroom and stairs. So, it looks to me like you'd need to box around the stair landing and have the bed-side of the wall extend to the bathroom.

I imagine when you start playing around with that, you'll have cramped awkward spaces. Now, if you're willing to walk into the second bedroom every time you go up and down the stairs and to the bathroom, you can put the master suite in the end with the table and chair, remove that wall and put walls anywhere along the two corridors on either side of the stairs. WIth one twin bed under the windows in the current bedroom, walls around the stair landing might be less cramped.

^^^That looks good; could the walk in closet be shared? Would it be helpful to move the door to the smaller bedroom towards the stairs, which would give a few more square feet to the actual bedroom?
