Like other materials used, there are high end, mid grade, and total junk vinyl windows on the market. Unfortunately, low end manufactures tend to outnumber high end products, and not knowing what window your builder uses makes it impossible to leave a useful reply as to their appropriateness.

Also unfortunately, many builders, even high-end luxury, like to use "value" windows. This tends to be especially prevalent in certain areas of the country such as parts of Texas, Arizona, so on, but no area is immune from it.

Crazy what homes are now. The last several years we've seen a nearly 50% increase in the median home price in this country. All the while interest rates are up.

As far as vinyl in a luxury home, good vinyl...sure. We see it here and especially for folks building something efficient.

When you say "more durable", what do you mean? Because the warranty comparison between clad wood and even fiberglass, to vinyl, doesn't seem to reflect that.

I asked my builder for exact brand and materials and they are not providing the information. Is this something I need to worry about?

I would double check with them. I think Boral is just the extruder of the lineals and not the maker of the window. Might be wrong, but you can ask them for the CPD number (Certified Products Directory) as well.

I see nothing from their webpage that gives me a warm fuzzy for this being a high end product. Looks to me lie a run of the mill average vinyl product. However that being said, 1.7 mil houses are not what they used to be. I would not want them used custom home at any price but that is me. I am not opposed to vinyl, just needs to be a much higher end vinyl product. And the correct style house of course.

After thorough research vendor doesn’t carry the installed windows model anymore, given the fact the house is brand new build with discontinued window product would you move forward buying the house?

The vendor does not carry the product line or the manufacturer discontinued the line? Neither answer matters much to me as I made my point above. Nothing high end about their products in any model.

Seeing their products are not great to start with I certainly would not buy a brand new multi-million dollar home with windows from a mediocre company with a window line that is discontinued. Not a good place to start.

Builder agreed to give 10 year warranty. Not so sure how warranty works though.

Not saying this is the case, but imagine a window manufacturer who had two window lines. One line was very good and rarely received any complaints while the other line was not very good and got lots of complaints. If you were the manufacturer which one would you discontinue?

If you are going to discontinue a window line, this isn't something that you pull out of thin air and decide "as of today, we no longer offer this window line". Discontinuing a product line results in inventory and stock that has to be liquidated; one way is to offer deep discounts with or without other manufacturer options. This might be great for a builder, but is there any benefit to the homeowner?

A 10 year warranty offered by the builder or the window company? If that's not clear upfront then that could also be a red flag. And 10 year window warranty is absolute minimum, nothing special at all.

I agree with millworkman that there is nothing on the company's website that gives me any confidence that they offer a superior product.

If they use low price windows, where else did they save themselves money? So much of construction is hidden behind the glitz and glitter of shiny chandeliers and sparkling hardware. Insulation, hvac system, plumbing hidden behind the walls, brand of paint, etc, etc, etc.
