Do you want cellular shades? Pleated shades? Perhaps you need to look online to decide what you want and then find who sells them near you. I can tell you to shop at Home Depot or Loews or The Shutter Hut or Budget Blinds but if they are not near you it doesnt matter. Are you planing on buying online? You are describing cordless shades if you want to move them by hand.

Hi Rho, great name by the way. We're near a Home Depot but not sure if Loews is still here in the Victoria BC area or Budget Blinds. I didn't know what cellular shades are so I googled it and I don't think that's what I want. Since they'll be up behind a valence most of the time, except when the sun is too bright or it gets too hot in the rooms, I'm looking for fairly basic blinds that can be moved up and pulled down by hand. I don't want any cords. I don't want to buy online.

Perhaps roller window shades will work for you.

Is there a reason why blinds won't be the right choice?

I previously had blinds with a cord to pull them up and down but I'd like to eliminate the cord now and that's why I'm wondering about the type of blind that can be moved up and down with a gentle pull or push by hand.

There is no one right or wrong choice. You want something CORDLESS.
