MY first question always when this pops up is what was the plan when you bought this piece I think you buy what you need in a space not something then try to figure out the need .When asking this too we need to see the whole space to see how this relates. I love MCM but I aslo am a minimalist so no bunch of useless stuff on shelves but the few things I have on display are all I want. To now go shopping for bunch of stuff to fill shelves is just not the way to decorate a HOME

There is a bit of a science😊 in accessorizing shelves, especially with MCM, as it has more of an eclectic look. It’s also such a personal preference. Consider using some books, small framed pictures, intermixed with a few colourful glass or ceramic pieces. Try consignment shops and Marketplace if you like that feel.

What room is it in? I think that is a key factor.

What was the point of buying the shelves? Was it for the bottom storage? I would shop your home for things you want to display. Just don't turn it into a homegoods display shelf.

Maureen's image is lovely, but how are plants going to survive there? Maybe the snake plant if it is a generally light room. If you want a botanical element, why not use dried reeds, flowers, etc. in a nice vase?

Just thinking this might be helpful for placing items.

That is exactly why you do not buy shelves with nothing to display there is not one item in that pic above that screams to be displayed everything on there bought to go with the decor not becuase it was chosen for a reason.
