Not everybody wants a $5k lighting solution! :)

OP, your photos are pretty dark, so it's hard to see what's in your space other than the distorted entry light and that mirror. Still, here are a few ideas to get you started. These might all be considered "transitional," which means they're on the border between traditional and contemporary, and thus support a variety of styles.

That entry light has got to go it casts horrible shadows to start. As for the DR IMO you have too much stuff in there and please do not decorate that ledge above the window it needs to have no decor . Two very differnt styles of cabinet are one too many. For me the room needs light and lots of it so a chandelier that lights the room and maybe the ceiling might work but ideally so pot lights should be installed so the chandelier does not need to do all the work. Waht exactly is your style that space really does not have aspecific one . Maybe something like this where both up and down lights . then a ceiling mount light for the entry that is all down lights with a touch of black and brass too

I would recommend you add a few recessed light for general illumination

The photo illustrates a linear lantern over the dining table.

Move the tree closer to the window.

Add some better sized art over the console table

Thank you for all the suggestions. i added fhe pot lights which was the plan. I would like a chandelier for under $500. Please let me know if i need to change the chandelier by the fornt entrance which connects to the dinning room.

I like the second suggestion from am. It plays off the windows in your door.

    Hi Goldi!

Looking at the art deco detail in the structure of your house, I feel the lantern look might be a bit too minimalist? Pointing you in this direction …

True art deco has Moroccan (cain 🙂) beginnings, so you can play a little with more ornate styles (will match the beautiful rug choice!)

@Home Interiors with Ease I would like the traditional style, The room size is 148x200 inches and the vaulted ceiling is 13 feet in the middle in the room. The suggestion I’ve received are either gold or black chandeliers. what is the best color?

  • last year

I need to make a correction the ceiling is inclined, with 13 feet hight in the middle of the room.

If keeping the foyer lighting I would continue with gold fixture…but I would start new with foyer and dining room fixtures..that way you can choose the finish you want…I would not spend a dime on new lighting until you pick your furniture. That would be my advice.…but if going to move forward, it needs to be a classic traditional style..nothing trendy.

@Home Interiors with Ease please tell

me where can I purchase the chandeliers on the right, those are the type I will need for inclined ceiling and keeping a traditional style.

The one from Lowe's is more of contemporary style but I love mixing with tradition interiors and with your high ceilings it would be a show stopper! I have similar chandelier in my dining room.

Those glass light fixtures collect dust and look cloudy in locations with bright sunshine. I might consider a fixture that has a curve to complement the arched window in the foyer.

The fixture can be about 20-30" in diameter.

Goldi, any light on a vaulted or sloped ceiling must specify it can be hung on that type ceiling. You may want one without glass or crystals because they will require frequent dusting and cleaning. The entry and DR lights do not have to match but they should share at least 2 if the same elements. If you choose style with “candles”, they both should have drip catcher or neither should
have them. Measure each room and get the correct number of lumens to light the space. Also consider DR light should send light down to the table. DR light should be dimmable - replace light switch if it is not dimmable.
