It’s not finished yet just framed out and we have temporary stairs in the middle so wouldn’t be the best pic….im just wondering in general with a vaulted ceiling if there is a way to do both with it looking like too much going on

As long as they are separated it shouldn't look like too much depending on the size of the living room. Do you have the living room measurements by any chance?

Sounds like you have enough space for both!

Whatever you do I think it will come out beautiful; 18' x 24' with 12' high ceiling is great space.
