backyard design help

last year

So we have very squared off back yard with grass right in the middle, we just got it put in and with the investment and sprinkler we don’t want to make major changes, but the grass is always wet (we live in Berkeley CA near the bay and so the dew is there morning and evening and it rains a lot in winter). I was thinking of adding flagstone stepping stones from the side path to the shed and also perhaps stepping stones to the seating area. Like this were they are set into the grass. We do have young kids that like to play out there so we were hesitant to put in hard rocks.

What does everyone think ideas on:

  1. a way to get our yard to feel more organic vs so squared off without major changes
  2. best path ways.

P.S. we also hate the side path we did small rocks with pavers and the small rocks are always in the pavers so you walk out in barefoot to throw the trash out and it hurts your feet.
