Many door companies sell a 40 inch exterior door. I dont know how many sell fiberglass, but, I would go to lumber yards, and door departments, and see what they have. You will most likely have to order that size door, since, most places dont stock them. Myself, I would prefer a wood front door and a storm door to protect it, if needed.

112 year old house? You want a custom wood door replicating what you had that can be trimmed to fit your wonky opening. (Meaning it’s probably no longer square etc).

Thanks! im open to recomendations on wood and companies. We’ve already talked to multiple vendors ans all want to replace the whole frame AND our perfectly intact transom. open to thoughts

If the transom and frame are in good conditon, I would definitely not replace them.

You need a contractor who works on historic homes. Even in rural Maine I have a guy who can replicate historic doors. You have someone who wants to work with modern materials which are inappropriate for your home.

I think of course it depends on what the house looks like so post a picture please . I have to agree if the house is still pretty close to the original than awood door seems the right choice and I also agree get a contraactor that understands how to order and install the right door .A good contractor can save the transom but I bet it is not double paned so maybe repalcing that too might be agood idea.
