will I regret this fireplace placement?

Undergoing a renovation and I want to have an electric fireplace… considering this 3 sided fireplace (shown in the photos)! Thoughts?

(The other option is having it on the wall with the sofa near the bay window which I believe is the more conventional spot)

Pros of the 3 sided fireplace:

it’s cool / unique
creates a bit of a division of the rooms in the open concept space
can be enjoyed from both rooms (we’re more likely to use the dining room than the living space with the window)

Cons:

in the future, would provide less flexibility for furniture placement (potentially)
maximum comfortable table size (3’ on all sides) is 66” but for large events cooouulldddd probably go longer if needed (84” or 90”)

Any tips about the fireplace itself are also welcome!

This is not really a vote issue. IMO a FP is best usually on a wall so that it is the focal point in a space . It is why when I design homes I put the FP in the "LR" and the TV in the FR since the two in one space creates issues . Where are planning this is interesting but seems to me to be one of those dated ideas that disappeared for a reason . I also do not like bay wundows and in theis case I would have eliminated the bay and put a nice FP there to be emjoyed by both the LR and the DR.

Thanks Patricia for your advice... As you mentioned, the TV and fireplace are in different rooms so I'm glad I'm off to a good start. Do you know why placing fireplaces like this have fallen out of favour?

I think the fact you did as I mentioned is a great plan. As for why I think thye just really were odd and some builder wanted to include a FP and that was the easy answer kind of like when they install a corner FP so stupid .

Putting the fireplace there will limit your use of the space when you want to extend the table for special dinners.

It looks like a really stupid place for a fireplace. Most of your furniture has it's back to the fireplace. Sticking it between the rooms means that all logical furniture arrangement will have their back to the FP. Further, it limits your flexibility with your rooms. You'll be limited in expanding the dining room table and it will be in the way if you want to have a party with a lot of people in your LR.
