Can you ‘get away with this’ ? Of course you can, your money your space. Does it look good? No. The space was clearly designed for a counter depth fridge.

So my options are to either stay with Bosch, which would be consistent with the rest of my kitchen, but I can only find a refrigerator. That’s 2 inches less deep… is that even worth it? The other option is to go with KitchenAid, which would be almost 9 inches less deep (essentially flush) and aligned with my counter… Would you go KitchenAid?

I hear you on the brand. This is my own hangup.! Still considering KitchenAid! But now I am hearing you say you don’t like the water dispenser on the outside? I think you’re right. My aunt said the same thing yesterday!

I’m going back to Best Buy to look at both but curious if you think that the Bosch less 4 inches would look OK that one is a countertop depth..

If you're sticking with french door, you might have only four inches to reduce before the wall to the right of the fridge prevents the right door from fully opening. Check that out if the fridge almost totally fills the opening. A fridge door that won't fully open is a huge pain.

Hi, you have a very nice apartment! If you look at the side of your new fridge, notice there’s the black part that is sticking out beyond the wall, and then the stainless door edge. You want the black part to be covered by wall, but the stainless door edge to be sticking out, so that the door will swing open 180 degrees. To determine how many inches less depth you need, measure the black part that is sticking out. The Bosch that is 4” less deep may work well. Sorry you’re having to deal with a return. . . If I may offer another observation, judging by the colored bottles on top of your cabinets, it seems you would like to bring in some color. It would elevate the look of your kitchen not to have items on top of the cabinets, but bring in the color you crave through wall art, runner, and decorative accessories on surfaces. For whatever it’s worth - take it or leave it :)

I feel your pain - going through a CD fridge search myself right now. You need to be careful about a CD fridge in that space - the doors may open into that countertop on the left that extends beyond the cabinetry. Also as mentioned above, the door on the right side could hit the wall on that side. As it is now the fridge sticks out far enough to avoid those things. I've had a few problems with KitchenAid appliances and will never buy another one - friends had some of the same problems. Overall I've found Bosch seems to get the most favorable reviews for refrigerators but they have some problems as well. Don't know anything about Thor.

Ginatay, I just measured that black part and it is 5.5 inches. The other Bosch Refrigerator would only stick out by less than 2 inches. I feel like that could work., right?

3katz, my issue with KitchenAid is it’s not elevated. I live in a luxury building and have a luxury apartment.. I want luxury appliances. It’s a simple as that. The apartment came with all Bosch appliances, except for the refrigerator that died.. actually I had had more issues with KitchenAid, I would prefer to get that. So now I’m thinking this less shallow counter depth Bosch or the Thor

Ultimately it comes down to what you are willing to live with :)

Beware going so shallow with the fridge that the door will not open against that wall. You will need to move to an actual built in if you want the fridge flush with the cabinets. That is the only ones that will open against a deeper obstacle at the side.

Bosch is 27 inches deep and KA is 25 inches

If "luxury brand" is an important factor for you get a Subzero refrigerator. I wouldn't exactly consider Bosch to be a "luxury" brand - not much different from KitchenAid. It's not terribly difficult to have a new fridge cabinet made. That's what I'm doing - not because luxury brand is important to me but SZ is the highest quality solution for my suboptimal refrigerator space.

• You have the Bosch B36FD10ENS ($2000) whose cabinet plus 1" rear spacer (excluding doors and handles) is 29-5/16" deep.
• You could replace it with the Bosch B36CD50SNS ($2970) whose cabinet plus 1" rear spacer (excluding doors and handles) is 25" deep. Read the spec sheet to see how the doors can be opened 90-degrees and fully in a 25" cutout.
• The Bosch B36CT80SNS and B36CT81ENS are also 25" deep BUT they are 72" tall and it appears that the cabinet above the refrigerator would not allow either of those.

No, it will not look flush. The doors will extend beyond the adjacent wall as they must.
