Prune the shrubs way back or remove them as la_la Girl suggests. Shrubs' tops should be a foot lower than the window sills.

For sure the pruning and IMO those 2 arched pieces should be gone they do nothing for the house at all. I do not even see the front door or the walkway that leads to the front door I see no protection for guests over the front door Landscaping is what ylou need and lots of it moving out into all that grass all along the walkway instead of those tall bushes that make the walk feel closed in . maybe even a much wider walkways. The siding color IMO is wrong too. You have ahuge yard use it to enhance the house like this for instance .

Thank you. Removing the arches would be too costly I’m afraid but I could paint. What color would you suggest for the siding? If I paint the door a bright color, would that help make the entrance more visible?

Paint the arches to match the siding. Paint the door a brightish light color.

So charming! I honestly think the landscape is a bit overgrown…cutting back or removing some of the overgrown bushes would expose more of your beautiful home.

I would paint all the trim Urban Bronze..and siding Revere Pewter…or Canvas Tan…front door could be a olive green

--Remove the foundation shrubs on the right. You might be able to incorprate all the shrubs to create an island bed to add interest to the huge expanse of lawn. Notice in the photo below that all the foundation shrubs are low and have space behind them just to frame the house. You'll need a garden designer to help you with front garden plans.

What is your climate hardiness zone? Looking at your ideabooks, you seem to have a lot of cottagey-mediterranean gardens, while your front yard looks more builder-installed.

I'd remove the bush in front of the arched window, then build more variety in your plantings with natives suited to your area. Be sure you plant with the final size of the plant in mind, and don't overcrowd, but leave open spaces between the plants so you can maintain it easily. Then mulch it well. You might like to install a drip irrigation system in the beds so that you can avoid moisture issues, and get more efficient watering. Depending on where you live, it could be possible to have year-round blooms for pollinators, which is really cool.

Would you please add closer-up photo showing just the gray-painted section with the front door? I like the house design and detail, it would be good to see it up close.

The pruned hedges right up against the house need to go. They just make the house look short which it isn’t. The weeping (yaupon?) next to the door is great but needs to be allowed to grow taller and limb up the bottom so the trunk shows. The beds by the house need to have short plants, grasses, day lilies, etc more trees along the street if you don’t already have them.

Thanks for the closeups. My advice still stands--light turquoise front door. Paint siding a more golddn taupe. Develop a gardening plan so you can save some of your shrubs. Remove those entirely on the right and the ones that block the window to the left of your front door. A garden designer can help you plan a lawn island and replacements of lower foundation plants.

What stands out is the worn walkway. What would extend the house footprint would be a cement (color of siding) and brick walkway (budget option) or brick red stone path.

To anyone following this thread, when posting an exterior Design Dilemma, take long distance to take in all landscaping, nearby houses, and closeup photos of walkways and finishes of siding and trim.

Such a beautiful home…have always loved that style.

Consider painting the downspouts the color of the brick so that they disappear.

The big shrub in front of the window to the left of the porch looks like a weeping form that needs a bit of free expansion. If you like the shrub, a landscape architect can incorporate it into the new design in a different location, assuming they can use one of those big clamshell diggers to scoop it and its rootball up.

Looks like the grass and that low plant on the left of the sidewalk are growing enthusiastically over the edge of the sidewalk. You can have the grass edged back a couple inches more, then get the sidewalk and porch pressure washed. They will look nice and clean.
