It would be nice to see a picture of your dining room with chandelier. Depending on it's style, you can add small chandelier shades which take care of the glare.

The rattan fixture is a definite style. It's about 180 degrees away from the lantern style.

If your table is rectangular, maybe a linear chandelier would be better.

You would get a more valuable recommendation if you post an image of the room.

Have you tried changing the bulbs or seeing if you could put a dimmer switch?
