I don't have a Safeway near me. I wonder if Vons has them. So tempted to try but have not succeeded in propagating a florist rose.

SoCal-- the thing about Safeway compared to all the other grocery stores is they put names on their bouquets. I'm pretty sure Vons is the same company so check out their floral department

That is really nice of them to label it. I have a grocery store mini rose, I purchased years ago that I would love to know it's name. I wonder why most don't label them. Vons is owned by Safeway.

Albertson's, headquartered in Boise,ID, owns Safeway and Vons and a number of other supermarket chains.

Who knows what this supermarket mini is? It's at least 6X6 feet. And I've grown it for at least 16 years. Diane

Thanks, all. Someone asked about this mini's blooming. It is a true continuous bloomer, but the largest blooms are in spring and fall. When the weather is hot during summer, the blooms shrink down to mini size. Another quirk which I don't particularly like and don't fully understand. Diane

Drift roses do that. Spring and Fall roses are considerably larger than summer blooms. In particular, Apricot Drift has blooms now almost double the Summer ones.

I grow quite a few Apricot Drifts and mine don't vary much in size. The size variation on the big mini is really extreme. Diane

Hah I, too, bought barista from Safeway and stuck the stems in some dirt to try to root them. Fingers crossed!

Most mini roses sold in markets such as Trader Joes are bred by Poulsen.

I have Gene Boerner and I think my plant, a Floribunda, is much smaller than Diane's glorious mini rose grew to be. It also can have a coral tinge.

Yes, I do think it is a very charming rose, SoCal. Very free blooming. Mine is small and relatively new.

I checked out Gene Boerner on HMF, and I'm sure this mini isn't that rose, but I enjoyed the look. One of the first photos was by another Dian(n)e in SW Idaho. She's growing Gene. My daughter received the mini from a kindergarten student of hers, and I began growing it for fun at least 16 years ago. And it has been fun. Diane

SoCal, I agree we have similar tastes. I have 300+ roses at this point so that is a difficult question.

I think the Tea roses might take the cake for their grace and romantic qualities.

Sheila, 300😍😍😍! That is a ton to remember. Okay, I'm really interested in finding rose bushes that have a ton of bloom all over when they bloom. Since we have similar taste can you recommend any?

Socall, I thought the background looked similar, but the rose does look different, though not radically so. My rose is just one rose not a border, and a few feet down the bed are two Munstead Wood, a Twilight Zone and an Ebb Tide quite close together, so a different look if you could see the whole border. Thanks for asking--I'm feeling well, but discouraged by The Inversion, extra cold temps as a result, and a lot of beautiful hoarfrost build up. See my explanation of The Inversion on the seasonal thread. Anyway, I can't get out in this weather to finish up compost spreading and front beds cleanup. I let the back yard beds go for bird cover, and don't worry about it.....How are you doing? I hope the vertigo has subsided. It's a wretched condition to have. Diane

A few feet down from the mini rose is this, a whole different look that wasn't even in the Google lens.

SoCal, during my Spring flush all of the roses bloom profusely. The Fall has a good flush too including the Tea roses. Here, it gets so hot midsummer that some roses rest and do nothing. Between you and me it is hard to have favorites and they can change daily. I have a variety of rose classes so something is always blooming. I am more of a collector than a designer looking for a mass bloom. Some marvelous mass bloomers are my Spring only bloomers but many people do not have room for those.

@sautesmom Sacramento I'm so jealous, all TWELVE of my barista cuttings rotted. One looked like it was taking but got blown over and uprooted when the gutter cleaners were doing their thing, so ended up losing it too. I'm now trying Kim's burrito method with a different bouquet. My prop success rate is terrrrrrible.

Those two were grafted. I've spent  years learning to graft fruit trees and it seems to be paying off with the Roses too!

I also have a terrible time getting cuttings to root because my climate is usually too dry and hot.

My Barista and Madame cuttings DID Sprout but I have learned over the years that means absolutely nothing until I see roots, and even then...!

Sauttesmom, do you cover your cuttings with a clear plastic and check to see it has moisture in the bag? My sweet menta rooted so now I'm going to try another florist rose I got for Vday. Please share with us your grafting process. Which rose are you grafting it on?

@Z10Socal omg can you share your method? I’m on attempt #153$;7@*% (expletives intended) with nada. I tried the burrito method and everything rotted. I’m trying plain water props now and some with the ’glass jar’ method.

So my little rooted ones aren't doing that well either. A couple of them got leaves but then turned black. I still have a few hopefuls but, as I said, I graft because rooting just doesn't usually work for me.

My Barista graft onto this rootstock sprout looks great though!

SD, you need to provide your propagations a green house either with a bottle or plastic bag then leave them alone. If they are rotting means you are keeping them too wet.

@sautesmom Sacramento Which rootstock are you using! And where did you get yours? Susan in SB sent me two of her pink clouds to try my hand at grafting but I’ve been a bit busy and a bit too chicken to try lol.

@Z10Socal you’re right. I do use humidity domes in some form for each attempt ie a clear plastic bin or a ziplock bag for the burrito method, but they all turn black. I'm able to propagate from my bushes, but these florist bouquets are just not working for me. I'm stubborn though, I'll keep trying. If you can think of anything, I'm all ears.

I don't know what the burrito method is. What I have seen successfully is sand. My sweet menta was rooted in sand, perlite and peat moss. I just chopped my Vday roses and trying what I did last time and just pure sand too. Bottle and plastic bag on top. Some I'm going to grow indoors with grow light and on a window and some outdoors. Try all different variables.

My best rooting success is sticking cuttings outside in the ground in October here without covering at all. I use a rooting hormone dip. Come Spring the plants grow if they took.

Sheila, you are a rosarian the rest of us are learning. You have that success with florist roses too? I would think in October where you are it would rain a ton. Florist roses are not picked fresh so I feel like they need extra care.

@Z10Socal which sand do you use? And what ratio do you use in your sand:perlite:moss mix?

SoCal, I have not tried to root florist roses. Any jar or topping I've tried has caused the cuttings to rot.
