How bad is this floor tile intallation?

I opted for hexagonal tiles in a bathroom for a new construction, and I think the way the installer laid out the tile is terrible, due to the fact that the tile ending at the tub required very small pieces. In lieu of actually putting in the pieces, they just filled it with grout, which I think is unacceptable. Also, the grout color seems inconsistent throughout the floor, and I can't tell if this was intentional (do they make grout with varying coloring) or it's a bad mix job?

Would love some feedback on if this installation is acceptable, and if not, what the solutions would be. Thanks!

No attempt to add tile pieces

Huge gap where a tile should be (left side of tub)

Looks like they did attempt to put in a small piece of tile (right side of tub)

Sorry this happened to you. Looks like a subpar, and amateur floor install.

What type of build is this? Custom, Semi-custom, Tract or developer type? The quality level unfortunately goes with the answer to this.

@millworkman It is Toll Brothers, so is that semi-custome / developer? I've hired small business contractor (supposedly highly rated) near me before, and I had similar issues with tiling a new shower. I've seen other nightmares on here too, so I guess it is difficult to find good tile craftsman.

I am also curious on what the fix is? Rip out whole floor or try to put in the tiny pieces of tile?

Tract/Developer pretty much exclusively at any price point. Unforuntaely from them you won't see much better or I would suspect get any satisfaction from them. Not sticking up for them or making excuses it is just that business model. To fix that at this point would probably be a start over and a better layout to avoid those tiny pieces as only a high quality tile setter can pull that off and even then some may be to small to effectively stay in place or even install properly.

Toll Bros is low end, and that's kinda what to expect at the low end. The whole floor would have to be reset to even out the cuts at the door and tub. They might make their guy do it again, but then you'd have the same type of quality again.

A good tile mechanic could dig out the grout and cut small pieces to fit. Grout it and go.... 2 to 3 hundred job. No more than an hour or two....

With drive and administrative time, it's a half day job. That's a thousand bucks; more in a HCOLA.. I hate to see readers getting unrealistically low prices. I wouldn't do it for 2 or 3 hundred if you lived next door.

Thanks, @Stonetech/Avanti Tile and @Joseph Corlett, LLC. We are having the builder fix it before closing, so fingers crossed. Thanks for the info though as we may be able to use it for leverage if they don't do it correctly.

Joseph. If close by AND no more than an hour or so, I don't think three hundred would be outta line....

IMO a poor choice of tile to satrt and this is the time to get it fixed at least as mentioned with small pieces of tile to finish the edges and grout is not what should be used beside the tub to floor space

I bet that with a bit of tape, epoxy and tints, I could add a couple triangles in there and nobody would ever be any the wiser.

The builder agreed to fix it, so I'll post the after photos when it gets done.
