Doctors are raising alarm about insurance company’s plan to put time limit on coverage for anesthesia during surgery

Starting in February, Anthem will deny any claims for anesthesia services that exceed specific time limits that have been set for surgeries and procedures on certain plans.

Anesthesiologists are raising alarm about an insurance company’s plan to limit the amount time they cover for anesthesia used in surgeries and procedures. One major professional group of anesthesiologists is calling for immediate reversal of the “unprecedented move,” saying it’s egregious and uninformed.

Starting in February, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance representing Connecticut, New York and Missouri will deny any claims for anesthesia services that exceed specific time limits that have been set for surgeries and procedures.

Sooooo, if you wake up during surgery you can avoid the added cost of extra anesthesia by telling the doctor to proceed with caution, while you watch of course.

The 'Ask the yard doctor' forum must be confused about why this post was shared with them.

I didn't even know there IS a Yard doctor forum.

That news was horrifying. It makes me even less enthusiastic about the open renewal process for Medicare that I'm doing today.

Makes me not so surprised that an insurance company exec was shot down in NYC yesterday with a bullet that said "delay and deny". Terrible, though not so much worse than what insurance companies are doing to us every day.

Anthem CEO must be scared. Backed down, at least in CT.

We need to take to the streets about health insurance in the US.

The patient was asked sex assigned at birth and if American citizen. Here’s a direct link. I couldn’t get excited enough about it to read it.

"The 'Ask the yard doctor' forum must be confused about why this post was shared with them. "

Connecting forums were lacking, but I figure that some patients may end up in the ground due to the over-the-top Healthcare profits agenda, medical coverage shrinkage, and their CEOs annual bonuses.

Well, we all end up in the ground eventually no matter who our insurance company is, except those who choose to be cremated, but I don't think a lot of people bury the deceased in their yard. I don't think the yard doctors are medical doctors anyway although they could be, but I don't think landscaping with the dead is something most doctors do.

    Sorry,

I am traveling, but I will try to give you the gist of what was said.

A woman goes to the emergency room in Texas. She has asked questions and told that she has to answer them and that it’s legal matter and she is, if I understand the article, has these questions in a public setting not in a private setting. Maybe I misunderstood that because I have been asked medical questions very personal medical questions in a effing hallway for heaven sakes

OK, so the questions are the following because it is after all Texas:

    Are you a US citizen?

What was your sexual identity or labeling on your birth certificate or when you were born?

I suppose it doesn’t matter if the person was in Dire Straits or had just a little bit of a headache .

I’ll try to find more info but again I’m in the middle of traveling so I don’t have everything at my disposal without jostling.

It doesn't really matter but I'll point out that my absence from this fracas and the other one on a related subject show that I don't automatically jump into each and every food fight. Nor do i ever intend my comments on other topics to trigger one.

I have strong feelings on this particular subject but I'm happy to keep out of this tussle.

To offer something else in this comment for those disinterested in the preceding words, I'll share that while Americans pronounce the word fracas as "fray kiss", the British say "fra ka", which rhymes with Ta Da!.

Lucillle, don't mind me. After posting for over 25 years on these forums I've become increasingly facetious.

I pronounce fracas as frahkus. While I see Elmer’s two pronunciations cited online, I also see mine. If it’s good enough for Julien it’s good enough for me. (His final one in the video.)

Although I might lean somewhere between frahk and frack, but definitely not frayk.

I guess this has devolved into a point of irrelevancy

  • last year

Yes, like I said I found people supporting the two pronunciations you gave. As well as mine.

As you edited your comment after mine was posted, i don’t know which words were added or removed. It doesn’t matter but something was changed.

I added the senence after the video because I second-guessed exaxtly how to phonetically represent my pronunciatikn. The part about finding both your pronunciations was there from the very start.

I understand Anthem rescinded their concept. They said it was misunderstood and miscommunicated. So I’m not sure what they really meant to do. But I’ll bet they have a word with the PR department.

In general, my complaint about insurance companies is with the concept of networks. They are the devil.

Insurance companies should be a place that isn't profitable. They should take in and distribute the money. Make enough to pay people in order for that to happen. They shouldn't be able to pay some stupid CEO seven figures. Period.
