Why this tile look?

Many on these forums are ripping out travertine-look tiles to replace with more "updated" choices. It could still work in the right house, but without seeing photos of the space and furnishings, we are just guessing.

Look at Daltile's new Calligo line for a nice modern interpretation of vein cut travertine. But no one wants to go back to those Tuscan era chiseled edge impossible to clean floors. The get ripped out by the thousands of feet, because they are awful to live with.

I'm going for a French/English country look like this. Like something you would see in deVOL Kitchens.

The house is currently empty and everything will be painted, countertops/backsplash replaced, so providing pictures of the current space wouldn't be very helpful.

Thanks for the suggestion re: Daltile's Calligo. It's close, but the edges appear to be rectified. I'm trying to avoid a modern look.

I agree with the comments above. We have real travertine with those chiseled edges and I would love to trash all of it. Way, way, way too much grout to keep clean and I hate them.

Chiseled edge floors are an invitation to a nice dark dirt frame around the tile. Even a steam cleaner has issues with removing the dirt from those divots.

The limestone look tile many of us have used is Cerdomus Pietra di Ostuni (Virginia Tile is a US distributor, not the manufacturer.) I got many samples from different sources and it looked the most like limestone. There are threads on it you can find; some ordered it from Tile.Expert. at significant cost savings over the Virginia Tile price. It's pretty gorgeous.

Real stone is not always a chisled edge for the simple fact that it still needs to look nice and be installed with small grout lines if possible . I have used real travertine many times never a chisled edge
