Keeping quartzite, replacing cabinets

We’re finishing a long remodel & realized we bought the wrong cabinets. We let ourselves be talked into Waypoint cabinets that are terrible quality. I’m trying to get all of our issues fixed but facing the possibility we need to replace them with something else.

We have a beautiful leathered Tahiti quartzite countertop sitting on these perimeter cabinets.

Can we replace the cabinets without damaging the countertops?

The experts who can give you the best evaluation will be the people who did the countertop installation. They would be my firs choice to do the removal and replacement.

Taj is very fissured, and brittle. It's finicky and temperamental. It doesn't take moving well once installed. So not easily, or cheaply, moved, no. You will pay almost as much as new counters for a service like that. There is no upside to free risk like that to any contractor.

It can be done. No one will assume breakage risk. Not a big deal if it breaks.

What’s the issue with the quality? We had cabinets in our first remodel, where the issue was only with the doors - some were warping. (That cabinet co., later out of business!). But the boxes were fine. So in the later remodel, when we wanted to update to Shaker-style, we just replaced the doors and drawer fronts.

The quality is just really poor. These are Wayfair cabinets and the paint finish is so poor. Since install I’ve talked with other people who rep several lines of cabinets who have told me that we are going to have to fight like hell to get quality finish. Our GC and cabinet rep have both insisted the quality is good and tried to
Touch up where there are problems but it’s made it worse.

Waypoint is American Woodmark is Shenendoah is Timberlake. It is a slightly above builder grade line that has very few finishes, and a few small amount of minor customizations. You will have to spend 5-6x what those cost to get a high end Level 8-9 custom line, so there really should have been zero mistake that you were getting anything other than a Level 2 type cabinet.

My GC and cabinet rep praised these cabinets and my GC just put them in her house! They kept telling us they were fantastic value for the money and there was no need to go with a different line. Our GC just won a couple awards in the Raleigh area and has a beautiful portfolio here on Houzz with all glowing reviews. I’ve seen some of her other work in person and it’s been beautiful. Ultimately though this is our fault for being talked into them. We were doing a huge remodel with so many decisions and there was a lot of unexpected costs (outside the contingency we budged for) so we just trusted our GC and her preferred cabinet rep. Biggest regret.

I don't know about your particular countertops but when we removed the granite ones in our kitchen they all came up easily without damage and we were able to give them away. Sorry you ended up with cabinets you aren't happy with.
