It would help if you could get more photos of the walls from further back. One thing I can see for sure is that the gold wall color is "fighting" with the pinky-beige floor. What about some vinyl wallpaper in there? I think laundry rooms are like powder rooms, where you can do something more colorful and/or whimsical than you might do in other rooms.

If you have a store called The Container Store near you, I would go in there and take a look at their Elfa shelving. They have all sorts of things for organizing closets. Even if you ended up going with a cheaper solution, you might get some ideas.

I wonder if it would be useful to hinge the outside door on the left, instead of on the right? Here’s why: you seldom need to access the dryer as you come and go, but you often need something from right side — leashes, jackets, shoes.

Left-swing door would cause some additional obstruction to getting the dryer in/out.

This is a well equipped room that could use a few tweaks. How many adults and children use the closet area for coats and shoes? Do you need boot drying in winter?

bar sink in a vanity style cupboard for storage. additional cupboard over the sink. lose the washer/dryer pedestals unless you cannot physically use the w/d at lower height. remove cupboards over w/d and replace with open shelving for laundry baskets. I use the wire shelving over mine, the I can hang items on hangers. Closet - either hangin rod or hooks depending on how many coats will go there. add a bench with baskets underneath for shoes, hats, mittens, etc. Paint or wallpaper. small washable rug to catch outdoor debris. Trim around door casing. wall hooks for keys, pet leashes, baseball caps. Is it within budget to replace door to rest of house with a pocket door or barn door outside the laundry room to provide easier access?

Hi Apple pie! There are 2 adults and a dog. Boot drying is necessary in the winter. I also hang t-shirts, etc. when they come out of the wash.

Thanks for info. I suggest new paint after doing a few things:

1. Add 2 or 3 coat hooks to the wood board around the top of the closet. Try using them for a couple weeks instead of the lower hooks.

2. Move the summer shoes to another closet so there's room for the boots to dry on the tray while the winter shoes and winter slippers go on the shoe rack.

3. Declutter the wire racks and cabinets over the washer/dryer. Use up any old and un-favorite detergents. If you need a step stool to get to the cabinets, use a folding one kept next to the washer/dryer or in the closet. Consider lowering the cabinets if that will make them easier to reach.

4. Replace the old towels by the sink with fresh new ones. If the small towel bar isn't big enough, get a longer one. Do you need an additional bar for dog towels? If the sink and bucket can be scrubbed clean, they'll look a lot better.

5. Add some beautiful framed artwork over the light switch. It should be something you love to see when you come in the door. Pick a color from the art for the walls.

6. Once the foam insulation is set and dry around the door, add trim pieces and paint the door white again.

Change the sink, paint the walls and door, reorganize the closet so you can hang clothing and have shelving to store laundry detergent and the shoes; remove cupboards above washer/dryer and if you really need the additional space for items use free floating shelves instead of the cupboards.
