I guess you could pick a different kind of electric fireplace, as long as you are willing to do surgery to the wall.

I have to say, nothing about the architecture of this house is saying "country farmhouse," so maybe start with furnishings and other things, and see whether you can let the built-in features of the house recede into the background.

The fireplace bothers you but not the staircase details, the ceiling fan, the light fixtures and the color of the vinyl flooring? PLEEEEEZ!!!

I guess my first question is this the space you are planning for a TV ? If so IMO that FP is perfect . I see hanging lights not sure why ? I need more info and as for your style furnishings will do that regardless of the FP. Gray walls not my idea of farmhouse which BTW is really a misnomer as to style . An actual farmhouse this is not .

this isnt my exact house same builder same fireplace i guess i want a more traditional fireplace do they make mantle surrounds for recessed electric fireplaces i have only seen the ones that come all together

I think the problem is that you are looking at an empty room. There is nothing there to give a sense of style or design other than the transitional elements of the black and the floor color.

I would get 2 cabinet to go alongside the fireplace ( shallow ) and get a new mantle that would extend all the way across the cabinets ( think a nice piece of live edge wood ).

If that is a ship lap back, then maybe change the color? Add some nice photos or art on the top and some vases or candlesticks.

Just do a couple of things at a time. I would wait until you have all of your items in place and go from there.

Really anything is possible, but changing the size/shape of the fireplace itself and adding a wider, rustic mantle would make a big difference for not a big investment. It’s awkward to begin with anyway.

Cozy farmhouse covers a pretty broad range, so can’t recommend an overall look for the wall. If you buy the house and when your furniture is in place, if interested take a picture to receive ideas that will complement, but also suit the contemporary feel of the space.
