Maybe stop the backsplash tile at the front edge of the upper cabinets on the right? Both sides then stop with the upper cabinets, which looks intentional instead of not-quite-right? (Decor then your call.)

Personally, I like the kitchen the way it is but you've had some good suggestions from @BeverlyFLADeziner.

What I'm noticing is your dining area with the glare from the chandelier (I much prefer shades on a chandelier to cut down on the glare - I don't like to see a bare bulb), the large art on the smaller of the 2 walls (at least that what it looks like in your picture), and the coloured accent pillows on the bench that compete with the art on the wall. I've also done a few changes on the console table behind the sofa. I see you like colour but you need some neutrals to have the accent colours stand out. Here's the visual...

Oh noooo... please don't start deconstructing your functional kitchen. You are not afraid of color or interesting pieces. Add them in here:

1. Remove all of the stuff from your small countertop with the lamp. Get a colorful piece of artwork you love, with a nice colorful frame, and hang it on your backsplash. Or hang a cool tray. (Command strips. Amen!) Then add under cabinet lighting to illuminate it and take the place of the lamp.

2. Finding antique doors that fit your opening, your hinge locations, and the catch is a really hard job and you will have to do a lot of repair to the doors and frame to make it work. (I've done this and it is much harder than it seems.)

Instead, paint your current pantry door a color you love in a high gloss. Replace the knob with something unexpected that doesn't match the rest of your hardware.

You are in a battle with a modern space and traditional elements. and they are in a fight. The view looking into the living room, is crowded. the view into the kitchen is clean. you wont fix that with shelving, it will just add more clutter to the eye.

Personally I think that large china cabinet is the killing the vibe and also the orange throw on the sofa. its lacking cohesion, so your thinking add more rustic to the kitchen and that will solve it it wont. i promise.

Lisedv is right about the art work in the dining room. And the lighting, could stand to lend itself more to the mix of modern and traditional.

What's the rest of your living room look like those the only two places for the TV that you're wanting to be voted on? And for your dining room table I would remove the runner rug if you want to rug under your table you could put one or leave it there I have an open concept with the dining room my couch is at an angle from the window

Change the knobs and pulls to a single COLOR. Be careful, use some restraint : ) despite its not permanent. Maybe the green, or do some shopping!

All of your finishes are neutral, and your wall color is blah/dingy and you are trying to wake the space up by throwing super colorful stuff at it. Use your art in the dining area as a color inspiration piece. You seem to like red, so you need a wall paint color that will live happily with red. A color with a hint of blue will work well with your existing finishes and still let your red pop. The dining area art needs to be on the big wall, and let it stand alone.

Thanks for all these helpful ideas and questions. I know the runner is out of place, but it is there for my old dog who slips on the floors. The painting was placed there by the gallery we purchased it from. Including a photo that shows more context.
Love the idea of painting the pantry door and paring down some of my clutter. Christmas decorations & my son home for the holidays adds to the clutter but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I'd paint the walls of your kitchen. My kitchen wallls are a hot, orangey yellow (painted by the previous owner), but between the windows, cabs and appliances and backsplash, there isn't much wall, so it works.

How much color you'll get from open shelves depends on what you put on them. A colorful collection of glassware and mugs, yep. Colorful plates with white or black edges stacked so you only see the edges, not so much.

I’d match some of the frames on your artwork to the wood of the armoire. It is a great piece, love where it is placed, and a bit more wood throughout, even in small doses will help tie everything together.

Yes those floors can be slippery and to have some kind of rug down poor thing our cat had the same problem when she was running it was kind of funny she was really good place but I wouldn't want her to fall down and get her like one time she went sliding fell on her side
