If budget allows, I would replace all of the floors. Possibly have kitchen remodeled or have cabinets painted.

I love a brick floor, but that is a bit too much. Maybe keep the brick in the entry areas--mudroom/foyer--and laundry room?

Brick would kill my back when standing in the kitchen so I'd say replace this wall with wood.

Replace. Three reasons: (1) it's much too much brick, (2) too cold underfoot in the winter, unless you're in a warm climate, and (3) that's a trip and fall waiting to happen, uneven surfaces are bad news, especially for folks whose years are creeping up on them.

So you now have 2 posts on the same basic space . So now you will need to read both all the time . You ar eplanning to redo the kitchen as mentioned before you need to change the floor if any changes are going to happen in thta kitchen . I agree if you love the brick then the kitchen layout stays the same only you can decide that

Remove the brick. Washing brick floors means wash, rinse, then dry the mortar with a terrycloth towel between each miserable brick. If you don't dry the mortar, grime will build up and then you will have to have it scrubbed professionally every year or so.

Brick flooring is totally appropriate for traditional style leaning kitchens and when you have hired-in help cleaning the floors each week. If you have to clean your home yourself, it is drudgery.

The original brick floor is far to glossy and "bumpy" in my opinion. Beverly has some good looks, ideas. Perhaps the original floor can be made to look like her examples?
