Safeway keeps tempting me!

I hope I'm not boring everyone with my rooting florist roses stories but Safeway had sprayed bouquets yesterday for a $10.99, and this one was amazing.
This is only FIVE stems! Each one has 10 to 20 blooms on it. It has a QR code to the grower and I THINK it's Fibonacci Aureus.
I'm sure it would be more muted colors in our hot summers but I sure hope it takes!

Sautesmom -- They are gorgeous, and I've never seen spray roses that look anything like that at my grocery store. The blooms look pretty big for a spray rose, and the color is awesome. I'm always on the lookout for interesting cut roses at the grocery store that are fresh and affordable, so your posts are definitely not boring to me! And I like becoming familiar with the various floral trade varieties.

I've noticed those QR codes before but never thought about what they were for. Next time I get a bouquet with one, I'll have to check it out.

I wish I had a Safeway like yours near me! My main options are Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. My TJ's seems to just get the same, not very interesting varieties in over and over again, though sometimes they sell garden roses (but they are usually what the growers consider "garden-style" rather than garden roses; e.g., Country Blues). In the past couple years, the Whole Foods near me has started carrying six-stem bunches of garden roses from Alexandra Farms in Colombia. They are completely unlabeled, but they have the distinctive "picked by [name]" label that Alexandra Farms uses. You have to catch them when they've freshly come in, as they are of course more delicate, but I've managed to get varieties like Yves Piaget, Patience, Keira, Princess Holly's Hope, Romantic Antike, and others. The varieties aren't marked on the bouquets, but I can usually match them up to varieties on Alexandra Farms' website.

    Windowsill
One of my Free Spirit grafts that took was from TJs, as was Candlelight.
For theirs, I only choose the fragrant bouquets to try to propagate.

Sautesmom, that's awesome you were able to get Free Spirit at TJ's. My TJ's always has a lot of creams/whites but they are unlabeled so I can't tell what's what. I love Candlelight and it always opens beautifully for me.

My TJs doesn't label either--Free Spirit is just one of my favorite roses, so I know my darling anywhere 😀 plus she's one of the few roses that smells like honeysuckle.

SD Shine, those are some great finds from TJ's! I may need to check out my TJ's to see if they are getting anything interesting these days...

    SD

Were those in the regular TJ roses, or the paper-wrapped premium section?

@sautesmom Sacramento The paper-wrapped garden roses. 8 stems for $9.99 at the Emeryville/Oakland stores.

@windowsill_gardener I got White O’Hara from them last week too! Definitely check out your store. I want to fill my entire house.

SD Shine, OMG -- those White O'Hara blooms are gorgeous. I may have said this before, but I really like your vases, as well. They suit the roses so nicely. The TJ's I got to is in Manhattan by where I work, and you should see how the flowers fly off the shelves (really good prices for NYC).

It occured to me that I did get these white and peach garden roses from TJ's last spring, and the white ones in particular really looked like garden roses. I wasn't able to ID them. I think they had little to no scent, but they had a very good vase life. I'd be very happy with ones like these again! I'll have to stop at TJ's in the new year.

@windowsill_gardener you are lovely, thank you. Flowers and vases bring me so much joy.

I found some florist roses at Whole Foods that were a nice suprise. They were the smaller type of roses that comes in bunches of 16. (I feel like WF or TJ's used to label them as African roses, but I haven't seen them identified that way in a while.) I usually don't buy these smaller ones since they never seem to open for me, but these ones actually did. They are a really pretty bi-color with smokey lavender in the center and fuchsia on the outside. They even have a slight sweet scent.

Sautesmom, I completely forgot to check and see if the wrapping had a QR code. Now I'm wondering what variety they might be. I'd still like to find some luscious spray roses like you found!

Clearly, everyone's grocery stores sell better rides than mine. I do not get any of these beauties.
