@beverly, the room isn't small -- it's about 36' x 16', and the end with the fireplace has a 14' opening to another large space. So maybe it's my photography, but I don't think you understand the scale. You're right that the collection is a little random. It's a combination of sentimental and practical things, which works for us and sparks a lot of joy. I was asking for advice about the lights, but if snide comments about the rest of my home make you feel good on a Saturday night, I'm happy to be of service 😆

@chispa -- very helpful, thank you. I only have one light, and it's not feasible to find more, so I may go back to my original plan of putting it in the powder room.

We haven’t seen the powder room so making a shot judgement in the dark here. But, my thought is that because you have only one of these vintage pendants, the powder room would be the best place for it. I think the light will be lost in the large space with FP in it. When hanging in front of the FP it will be lost & it will also detract from the FP. They will fight with each other to be the star of the show. The powder room needs to be large enough that a ’ basketball’ sized light hanging about head level won’t give the feeling that one needs to duck around it if it’s hung centered over the sink. Are you interested in showing us the powder room & also the other potential spot you mention - the bar? That might be interesting too. I’m guessing it’s a diffused soft light from this piece.

Here's the powder room! It's pretty big for what it is, about 6'x7'. No pics of the bar, but I'll take one tomorrow.

Do you have an entry way where your gift could be the star? I think the light will sit beautifully in the powder room, but it’s size may be a little too much. Such a stunning shade really ought to be where it can be admired as you and others go by, rather than in a single sitting…..

Would this light be able to be in addition to the over mirror light? I can’t tell if there is an over mirror light or if it’s canned lighting in there. Yes please, show us the bar!

Powder room is really nice. I think the pendant would look nice in that left corner.

The living room / dining room has a split personality - One side is warm eclectic splendor and the other side feels like a much less personable living room showroom. I think the big basketball light would add some more funk and interest to the fireplace area, help balance it out more with the dining side of the room. I'd remove the lamp on the console table next to the fireplace and hang the new pendent somewhere in proximity to that corner but not shoved all the way in the corner.

Is the great rainbow of colors on your buffet a wood candle holder with a gazillion candles? Whatever it is, it is beautiful.

[I know Beverly's comment came off as harsh, but I always find her well meaning. I suspect that she is partially picking up on the crowded nature. If you pulled the chairs slightly away from the buffet the space would breathe and seem more intentional. Any eclectic space when over crowded can veer into the danger zone between balanced maximalism and thrift shop.]

Nothing MCM about the DR one but IMO that is a stand alone fixture and use the new one in a completely different space I think that PR is the perfect spot.

Your style is very eclectic…have fun…. I think you can use the lighting any way you like! I would hang them as a set….offset lengths…DR could use just a bit of editing..but you have some fun pieces.

@kazzh, the entry has a great light, and this would be too small for that space, but it's a good idea. (I think the star is 42" across!).

The powder room walls are dark blue/green, and the gallery wraps around three walls. So there's a lot going on in there! There are three can lights over the vanity, and high ceilings. I had always planned to add sconces on either side of the mirror, which I wouldn't do if I put this pendant in there. I imagine it would replace one of the can lights. Would you center it over the sink? Or hang it to the right of the sink?

Sure. The 'rule' used to be (if anyone bothers with that anymore) two identical lamps in the same room HAVE TO be book ended on a sofa or credenza. If you can't book end them then one has to be removed to another room. If they are all different--anything goes.
