Need living room arrangement help!

Trying to figure out how to arrange this odd shaped living room. The previous owners added a closet which messes up the entire space.

We have two pieces of furniture. The reclining sofa and rocking recliner. The sofa is 86" wide, expensive and we can't get rid of it and a "smallish" rocking recliner. Plus a TV stand. We haven't purchased the end tables yet and I know they will have to be narrow. I don't know if we can put the TV stand over the fireplace because there are kids etc. that use the Playstation and I don't want to see the wires, etc so the wall across the windows is the only place I can think of that the TV will look good. I realize the sofa is big but we need it. It's newer and was super expensive.

When we put the TV against the long wall, the sofa is not centered with the windows or the TV if we have the recliner (which we need because it rocks and we have a baby).

Just baffled with this whole thing and I don't know what the solution is! Can we center the sofa on in front of the windows and put the recliner in the open space between the living room and kitchen? Ugh - that wouldn't look good either. Maybe we just have to deal with the whole room not being centered?

That closet sticking out on the left is the problem.

Yes it's big but yes we use it and need it.

All I have is this (we are not there right now). I'm not even sure if this is correct but I think it is. Sorry about that Beverly. Can't demolish the closet.

And yet some how you decided the dimensions of the room were not important enough to include.

How do you expect a layout will be accomplished without that information?

Tough one. what if you demolish the closet?

I think I would go for comfort and usage and not worry so much about symetrical windows.

BTW, love the rug.

Since you have the above furniture, once you move in you’ll be able to test/find the best arrangement for your needs/family and room’s layout. Layout not feeling centered is less important and once there is a rug and art, it won't be as prominent. I think though that the side and coffee tables’ shapes and sizes might need a lot of consideration in creating a balanced room, especially with the bulky seating.

I wouldn't worry about centering anything, and I don't have a problem putting furniture in front of windows... use top down bottom up blinds to close the bottom and open the top for light and view. Mount the TV on the wall loe wnough to view comfortably.

Without dimensions we can only guess.

I would NOT use that TV unit or the rug.

Here are two possible arrangements for the room

One mounts a larger TV screen above a longer cabinet

The second layout mounts the TV over the fireplace.

You could put the TV opposite the windows or in one of the corners and it's fine to put a couch a couple of feet away from the window or have the couch facing the fireplace and the chairs can be in front of the window and you could have a long table in front of the couch if you have it face in the fireplace and if the chairs are in front of the window you could have around table between them

This is hard. No chance you can get rid of that closet? I get it if not. I think there is only one spot for that sofa—against the wall facing toward the bank of windows. If you plan to have a tv in that room then that’s out. You may have to place it in front of the windows but maybe pull it away a bit. Try a few placements and take some pics.

She doesn't need to get rid of the closet. The expense of demo and then having to replace all of the flooring on the first floor since any replacement yile will likely never match the existing.

Don't even go in that direction.

Besides, it's likely the closet is required for storage.

Why is the light hanging in that location? With your back to the fireplace, would you take a photo of the other end of the room? Could the dining room go into the living room and the living room go in another room?

I suspect the light indicates this is the dining area in front of the sliding door that over looks the back yard
