I need pics of the space posted here in a comment. I see no point is spending money on a wall you are removing . Rads IMO are best as disappearing as possible so in my head black not so much. That is why we need pics . I do not think shaker style panels on a wall are great unless all the rooms have that trim IMO slapping wall trim without it belonging in the space add a mess not character.

Show your inspiration for the shaker style panels, so we can be on the same page as you.

Paint the radiator the same color as the wall. Add a narror console table with art above it, or just add framed art to the wall. No paneling here. Part of what looks great about your inspiration pic is the old floors. Your room is not going to have the same look to it as your inspo pic. Agreed, save your $ and time for the eventual knockdown.

Really same as wall for the rad and save the rest for the new space .

You can do a radiator cover. I DIY'd mine. It was pretty easy. Or put a shelf over it
