Cabinet space above washer and dryers is notoriously hard to reach and not practical for daily storage. I'd get stackables. (They make ones now with controls in the middle for the washer and dryer. I have one. It is every bit as great as any side by side I have owned.)With stackables you have more wall and floor space for cabinets.

Decide how much sink and counterspace you actually need. I'd vote for a tall pantry cabinet - even if a skinny one, to store your mops out of sight.

This pics show more entry/mudroom space than you may be looking for, but you can see how stacking the W/D will free up space for more full wall cabinets.

Either way (but especially the latter), a diagram with measurements helps us help you. What is your design style?

Actually your space does not look that bad. It needs more decluttering than some sort of remodel. All of those laundry supplies above the washer and dryer should be in the cabinet above the sink as it is easily accessible. All that other stuff needs to be stored elsewhere. If it is kids' things, teach them now how to temporarily dry winter coats, gloves, etc. and take them to their rooms. Their future spouses/partners will thank you. That room off of the LR looks like you could put some things in there and keep it organized.

Gosh, I don't see much clutter. I do wonder about those hampers hanging off the wall. I understand their appeal but given everything you want from that room, you may want to remove them. That wall could hold a shallow series of hooks for coats and bags, cubbies for shoes, shelves for items ready to go out the door, etc.

I wouldn't store laundry, clean or dirty, in that space. Sort dirty laundry into baskets before it's brought into the room. Try to create one continuous countertop by moving the washer and dryer together and extending the countertop all the way to the wall. This will give you extra space to sort clean laundry as it comes out of the dryer.

What's the room you walk into from there? I see a cooler and other objects blocking the floor. Extend your organizing project into that space -- maybe some of your storage can be solved by rethinking that?

Of course a full gut job could get you a much more efficient space but if it's not in the budget, a trip to Ikea might inspire you to make some low-cost changes that will reduce your day-to-day stress. Good luck!

How many people/kids use this as their entry? It looks like you live in a mild climate because I don’t see evidence of boots, coats, caps.

What else do you do in this room besides laundry? I see a nice sink and countertop, do you replace batteries, glue things, and that type of thing?

What is in the baskets atop the cupboards?
