Is this sink supplementing a standard size one already in the kitchen.

This size is usually used for food prep, not clean up because the size is small.

I have always like cast iron sinks. They are expensive and will require a grid on the bottom to protect from scratching.

Just get one with rounded corners at the sides and bottoms. You shouldn't need to pay a fortune, but it's probably worth getting the better thickness of metal for durability. Of course they develop a sort of patina that is very pleasant and does not look like damage.

I have a new 32" Ruvati workstation sink that I am really enjoying. The cutting board adds a lot of counter space which I need in my small galley kitchen. It came with a bottom grid which I have learned to like. So far no rust or problems. They do make a 24" undermount.

Look for at least 16 gauge stainless steel and some have soundproofing added to the outside.

If the sink is only 24” wide, you can get the most volume by making it as deep (front to back) as possible.

Is the 24" the opening in the countertop? What is the front to back dimension?

The bowl is 24" but the sink - flange to flange is 25 1/2. Make sure you are looking at the right dimensions.

Nothing is indestructible. I have had my Blanco stainless sink for 20 yrs. I do have the bottom grate. I have a couple of really fine scratches. No rust spots and I have well water.

Rust stains are caused by a wearing of the protective chromium layer in the sink, or leaving certain metal cookware in water ( it oxidizes ) and even cast iron - look it up and you will see all the reasons

Also, keep in mind that people who are happy and have no issues rarely post reviews. It's usually only those who have issues that post reviews. I'd look at dates of the reviews. Are they spread out over many years? Are they all one time frame? Etc.

I've never seen a stainless steel sink that rusted and I was in the sink replacement business. People use steel Brillo pads that leave traces of rusting steel and mistakenly believe the sink is rusting. Yes, stainless scratches, but it's easily refinished by a DIYer in minutes.

There is absolutely no difference in the quality of name brand identical items whether sold at a big box or by a plumbing supplier. Mom-n-pop suppliers do not buy sinks by the boxcar load from manufacturers; big boxes do which is why their prices cannot be beat, not by substituting cheaper parts/materials.

I installed the IKEA VATTUDALEN sink in 2005. Yeah, there are scratches -- no rust -- but I'm really hard on the sink and the scratches can be removed with a gentle application of Bar Keepers Friend. The single-bowl HILLESJÖN can be undermounted.
