It is difficult to say much with the current photo. My initial thoughts are to remove the shutters and get a professional landscape/hardscape plan. Please post a picture looking directly at the house, including the front door.

WHAT?? We need to SEE the entire front from the front... To create a proper colonial I would look into a portico roof of some sort.

I see a house with nice proportions and a classic style, if a bit bland. Attractive but not a wow. It's hard to remodel without destroying the proportions or style and your chances of getting a wow aren't great. Remodeling should be about adding function, not just adding features. If you haven't moved in yet, I'd live there for a year or so before deciding where to spend my money. The landscaping is overgrown in some places and bare in others. I'd start with the landscaping with great landscaping your house will be a wow.

The shrubs are overgrown. I'd ID them and, if they are flowering shrubs, wait to see the bloom, then prune them back to a reasonable size. Then, I'd assess the landscaping. A white house with black shutters is classic, but a blue would add a bit of pep. Navy is still pretty classic.

What's the path to the door like? A handsome brick path covered with leaves or a stoop ending in lawn?

Remove shutters. Remove foundation plantings and replace with ones that do not hide the front door. Remove concrete steps and replace with stone steps and hand rail. Not sure what your door looks like but update that if it is due for an upgrade. How old is your roof and siding?

Doesn't look like it needs much beyond TLC and cutting back the overgrown shrubs.

New landscaping would go a long way

    A portico would be nice.

Hire an arborist to walk the grounds with you to tell you what trees and shrubs names are. Record the conversation and take photos as you go. You can stick blue painter tape on some branches or trunks and use a Sharpie to write plant names on.

Then hire a landscape architect. You have very big trees and mature shrubs that wll provide a great foundation for updated design.
