I suggest you post pictures of all the walls in the room so that we can see what the best layoout for your furniture, including the fireplace, could be. If you can hand sketch a floor plan showing all dimensions, doors, windows, entrances to the room, that would also be great.

Reading one of you last posts, do I understand you want to block the entrance to the room (on the right next to the chest) by building a bookcase? you'd also have to finish the backside somehow, don't know what's behind there either...

The hallway is to the right of fireplace

You could start by semi-blocking the open doorway visually with one of those hanging beaded screens for doors.

Then you could move the tall corner shelf unit with the Eagle to where the sheet covered table is.

I would switch places with the sofa and two side chairs to open up the window area.

Get a big area rug to define the room. It looks like you could use possibly a longer sofa. The two side chairs in front of the window could be replaced with swivels to face the TV or the room.

Move the floor lamp to the left of the window where the tall shelf uniit was.

Can the fireplace be moved? If so you might consider putting it on the turquoise wall, turn the couch to face it, thus creating an entry for the front door. One chair can go in front of the window and the other at an angle at the other end of the couch. I’m not sure about the tv.

There's only so much space in a room. I don't see the space for the radio unless it's placed in front of the corner cabinet.

MOVE THE FIREPLACE TO THE OTHER WALL.

Here are my suggestions...

- Leave the fireplace as is and centre the TV above (doesn't look centered in your picture)

- Found a louvered screen with shelved to block on of the entrances to the room

- Relocated the corner cabinet, sofa and chest

- Pull your side curtains with even widths on each side of the window (as illustrated below)

- Place a flat weave area rug to define the space

Since you're making these changes and seemed willing to do some painting (fireplace which I suggest to leave white) I would suggest you paint all turquoise walls in a warm white, your furniture will look so much better and the room brighter and cheerful.

That fireplace definitely should be moved.

Can we see the opening to the kitchen? That’s the only other side we can’t see. The fireplace/tv looks very awkward there.

Like the couch front of the window, my dog barks less that way because the couch is the only piece of furniture she's allowed on and she can see out the window.

I had the TV on the opposite wall before we got the fireplace. The livingroom is too to have it that way the fireplace has to have a 220 outlet and that's the only wall with.

The fireplace needs to go on the wall where the chairs currently are. It will look so pretty there. You can have an electrician upgrade the outlet to 220. It probably won’t cost as much as you think.

The combination of the brown wall with the turquoise is not attractive. I would repaint the room.

Sorry but seeing the rest of the room the FP is the least of the issues and for sure no other bookshelf to collect more clutter I have no clue about Anthony's rant so ignore it. You need a big declutter then move back only what is needed in the space . IMO the TV above that FP is wrong . You have walls where the TV can go if those are not filled with stuff.

In the meantime you could move the fireplace to the opposite wall as suggested. Instead of turning it on, you could use battery-operated candles in front of the logs.

That fireplace is the only heat for the kitchen and livingroom!

Okay but does anything to appeal to you so far? A lot of good ideas for this room have been tossed around without much positive feedback.

Yes, I like the idea to move the curio to the right side of the fireplace, move the chest out of the livingroom, the couch in front of the window and the 2 chairs across from the TV.

Good idea to remove the trunk, you'll get a better flow.

Here's the floor plan with the loveseat back in front of the window, the 2 armchairs in front of the TV, and the curio on the right of the fireplace.

To block the entrance next to the curio perhaps you can consider vertical panel blinds (see below).

Yes! Ikea has vertical ceiling mounted panel blinds in beautiful patterns. We used them to define our kitchen. They can slide. Ours were semi-see thru and let light pass.

FWIW, upgrading an outlet to 220 will cost you 140-160 dollars. seems well worth it.

This is what I've done so far.

You can't see it in the pictures but the curtains have a design and they are brown and teal.

Barbara, I like your brown and teal together. Possibly because I have a rug that has the same colors in it and I like to pick them up in my furniture myself. One of the things that happens with decorating is that we can do too much. And so the idea is when to know not to add more. I’m not really gonna get into the placement of the fireplace, etc., however, I think it would be lovely if you had some kind of a teal throw over the dark brown recliner loveseat. I think that would minimize how monolithic it looks in the pictures. And then I would find something that isn’t as off-white in the covering for the other wing chair, because those all look very different. And in my world, there is no way getting an electrician to put in a 220 for $140-$160is possible, because they don’t even wanna make a house visit for less than that.

I need a mat at the front door to wipe feet. The chairs I'm going to recover and I'm getting a new loveseat to match the chairs.

That's a picture window, there's no wall behind the curtains!

It looks like the window frame is close on the left side in your picture but we cannot see the righ side. This is what I suggest how to hang your curtains to let more light in the room.

That is a stretched cover on the wingback chair but it doesn't fit right. I'm going to recover the chair, along with the glider.

Reupholstering can be expensive and now that you say you're replacing the loveseat perhaps you should look into purchasing 2 identical chairs for your room which already has a lot of small items of different styles.

I'm recovering the chairs myself. I refurbish old furniture, it's a hobby. The glider was given to me by my nephew, so it has sentimental value.

The the things on top of the cabinet were for my husband. The wooden box in the middle are his ashes.

Do you close the draperies at night for privacy? If not, I suggest you take them down. The room appears gloomy. You could use more light.

The fireplace wall looks too crowded with the curio placed there. Just leave the fireplace/tv alone on that wall.

Try moving the curio between the two chairs on the opposite wall.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's passing away.

I had mentioned that the items on top of the cabinets were relocated inside and had suggested to paint the inside a light colour so that items in the cabinet would stand out. You have a light in the cabinet so everything would be in full view.

I would change the pillow covers.

A turquoise throw over the ottoman would break up all that brown. Add a large rectangular tray on top. You could place a plant and a book inside.

Everything that's in the cabinet was my husband's and the eagle is too big for the cabinet. There's no room for anything inside.

This is what I've done. I also put a picture of the open wall.

I know not everyone can go out and buy stuff but the addition of teal pillow covers/throws as suggested would be a way to bring in some color and to tie in the paint color.

Ikea has such beautiful hanging panels that slide and you could use to close off portions of the kitchen wall. If you have no Ikea I can research something similar if you want.

The window treatment looks much better like this. Do you have enough room to move the two chairs so that they are facing the sofa? It might look more cozy. Dog bed could then go up against the wall.

If I do that there wouldn't be enough room to pull the chair out from the kitchen table.

Looks like you are a person who loves the outdoors! i do too! One thing to do to make this space more pleasant and cozy would be to remove all of the outdoor decor items from the living room and kitchen. those dragonflies, mobiles, wind chimes and scrolled iron thingies are garden and outdoor art. that is one reason they don't look right in the room.

Those aren't outdoor decor. Except the windchimes. They are ceramic and pictures and verses.

Have you tried turning the dining table the other way? That would give you more room in the living room.

Yes I have. The table is too long and you can't sit on either end of the table without hitting the fridge ot the china cabinet.
