Build-Ins with high ceiling dilemma

Hello all! I’m stuck with what to do with my family room.
I would like to get buildins around tv but not sure if that would look good given the high slanted ceiling. I can’t find any ideas online with a similar fireplace/window layout. The kitchen flows into the family room from first picture.

Something like this isn't done as much as it used to be because of what marmieguard said. When people transitioned from the old style larger (deeper) TVs to flatscreens the space for the TV wasn't the right size anymore so people had to remove or reconfigure their built-ins. Also, flatscreens keep getting cheaper, so people now have larger ones than they did ten years ago since they've become so affordable.

But it looks like you have children, so maybe you want somewhere to stash the toys? If the smaller, low units aren't going to provide you with enough storage, look at the pictures in Houzz under the "basement" search term. There are a lot of examples of larger built-ins there because a lot of people use their basements for TV viewing and playrooms. You can always put doors on the upper shelves to hide the contents rather than having open shelving if that would help you.

I would put in wood floors and fix that area above the fireplace like in this picture before doing any built ins. Have two sofas facing each other and have a flat picture TV above one of the sofas.

Please decide first what it is you're hoping to store or display before you go down the road of 'BUILT-INS'. We know the TV, but do you have a collection of some sort. It makes no sense to design, fabricate & install a feature like this which will be $$$$. and then spend additional funds to accessorize the unit.

The allowable depth next to the windows is minimal and the space will not permit built-ins unless the built-in is held shy of the windows.

Components can be assembled and attached to the wall to create a media unit.

IMO your TV screen is undersized for the room and should be larger.

I love the photo George posted. You could do the fireplace wall similar. I would have a sofa with ottoman instead of sectional and a chair. As for tv wall maybe a console with storage and keep tv on wall. No built ins.

Built- in “ something’s” don’t make as much sense nowadays with large ( and larger) wall- mounted flat screen TV’s. They really box you in” , haha, when your electronics may change. They made more sense with old deep TV’s because you could do strange cabinets below, stepped- back upper shelves, TV-hiding doors, all that.
Sing get me wrong, I love bookshelves, beautiful built- in carpentry , & had tgat built in around my old TV at former house. And I currently have bookshelves, with books, decor. Just not built around a TV. I agree you’d be way better off in how the room looks to organize your seating layout, TV location, and a great, properly -sized console— with cabinets if you need storage, or floating if more minimalist . Including, are you sticking with this size TV or itching to upsize, as that affects your console. If you really NEED other shelving, you can noodle on how that might be done. And that depends on what you have to put on it, and why. There are a lot of discussions on how people have put all kinds of things under & around their TV’s , thinking they had to fill up the adjacent wall space, or console surface, that just looks not- good.
