F daylilies 2025

last modified: 9 months ago

Please share your F daylilies today.

Faber Saber is my favorite yellow. good height, good bud count, good multiplier.

Fernstone almost left the garden for its poor habits. I moved it to the worst spot in the garden and it improved. Can’t understand why but am happy it did.

Fiordiilgi

Final Touch has languished here but stays because it blooms late. It had a great last season.

Forever Redeemed

Flutterbye is another favorite. it does well every season, a keeper for me.

Forsyth Flaming Snow is new here.

Free Wheelin is not prolific but its my hubbies favorite and blooms are huge.

Forest God had its third season here. not prolific yet but I love blooms.

Sherry - Faber Saber makes a showy clump! Your photo of Forever Redeemed is beautiful! It makes me sad that I left mine behind. Maybe I'll acquire it again. Forest God is such a pretty polychrome!

I'll post my F's later. I'm having work done on the house this week, and my workers are arriving in a couple of minutes.

Sherry, wow, what a great bunch! I narrowed it down to Fernstone :& Final Touch. Looks like your Fiordiligi is doing well as is Flutterbye, always favorites.

Debra, Faith that Moves Mts and 40 Days/Nights are both beauties.

    Flutterbye

    Fuchsia Dream

Full Grown with Hot Wheels sneaking in....

    Fiordiligi

    First Light [unregistered seedling]

Sherry Compliments to both you and Brad on Flutterbye and Fiordiligi. Nice lavenders. I also like your Final Touch Sherry.........Debra: You always have nice whites. Fancy Lace is one of them. It will be interesting to see if the ruffles lessen in a milder climate. That would be a shame........I only have one F. Imagine in spring after a hard winter and you see this across the nursery aisle calling to you. Well, into my cart it went. A solid growing older one that is a free flowering saturated red color.

I really like Freewheelin' but ours has dwindled away to practically nothing. It will go when we redo the bed it's in. I am not much of fan of white, but Fancy Lace is really pretty. So is Fighting Fire.

    I have quite a few F's.

Fantasy and Dreams is a late bloomer, one of the few purple late bloomers we have.

Feanorian Lamps is a beautiful flower on a rather petite plant.

Last season was the first season for Fifty Ways to Leave Your Cat. It is quite tall and appears to grow like a weed.

Fire Blast is another tall one.

Fire Burst is an interesting color.

Firestone was new last year. I hope it survives (it's a Pierce intro) and gets over the splotchiness. I really has some nice teeth.

Forestlake Briar Patch is probably my favorite Forestlake we grow. It is much taller than its registered stats.

    Flame of the West

    More in the next comment.

Flaming Phoenix was new last season.

Fourth of July in Georgia is a good grower.

Fox Lake Fantasy was hybridizer by a friend in Indianapolis. It's a good grower.

Fox Lake Ziconic is a rather strange color, but I like the big eye.

Fruitful Discovery has been nice the past couple of years.

    That's all for me.

Fortress of Solitude is new to the garden.

Sherry, Final Touch is so pretty. I have it but it blooms so late it gets torched by heat and lack of rain. Flutterbye is really pretty. Debra, Fancy Lace and Fighting Fire are always standouts! I have lots of pots of Forever Redeemed from when I dug it to divide late fall. If they survive our deep freeze this week, you are more than welcome to some. Maryl, I smiled at your Funny Valentine story. I did the same! Nancy, I enjoyed your photos of Feanorian Lamps-so pretty. I also like Fruitful Discovery.

I have a lot of Fs too. Here are a few.

Fires of Varanisi has rich color

    Flight of Orchids is fabulous

Fried Green Tomatoes puts on a show

Free Wheelin-so so in terms of buds and height

    Fancy Needlework

    Forest God is so pretty

Fancy Border has that delicate edge

    Fantasy Fringe

    Forsyth Flaming Snow

I really like FAITH THAT MOVES MOUNTAINS, FIORDILIGI, FERNSTONE's color saturation, and FOREST GOD.

FIRE AND WATER: Photo taken at COTTAGE GARDENS and a piece of it is now in my garden.

    FABULOUS FRIEDA

FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN: One of my favorites. It is a little short, but is well branched, holds up in full sun, and blooms over a long period of time.

FEAR NOT: another one that holds up in full sun.

FASHIONAIRE: One of my all time Bud Bennett intros. Throwing a polytepal bloom for the first time to my recollection. I've had this plant for 20 plus years.

    FOUR BEASTS IN ONE

    FACEPAINT

    FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE

FOREST GOD: Lovely pastel colored bloom.

FINDER'S DELIGHT: A very nice Bennett intro that I am liking more and more.

    FORSYTH RASPBERRY RIMMED

FRINGED SWEETHEART: This is a lovely bloom on a good scape with 3 to 4 branches. It is pod and pollen fertile.

FRIEDA ALLEN JERRELL: Probably my all time favorite lavender.

Whew. I did not realize I had so many in this category.

Brad - Your photos of First Light always grab me! The color on Flutterbye is marvelous.

Nan - Fantasy and Dreams caught my eye as a late blooming purple. There aren't a lot of lates with purple coloring. I like the looks of Firestone too! Hope it survives well enough for you to use in hybridizing!

Kate - You always have such pretty pictures of Flight of Orchids. I am fond of Woodhenge UFs.

David - I love your photos of those first four reds!

David, your photos of Frieda Allen Jerrell always make me think I need it! So pretty. You also reminded me I have Face Paint but haven’t seen it in a couple of years (bug damage) and also have Fearfully and Wonderfully Made. It did not bloom last year and has more deep pink/maroon coloration than yours.

I also have Fear Not-love the color

And I forgot about Farmers Daughter-nothing frilly here but great pink color and a bud builder that blooms a long time.

I found my Fearfully and Wonderfully Made photo! Had to search for it as it did not get to bloom last season

Flying Fox-one of Reimer’s intros. I love this rich color but wish the plant would multiply faster!

Stay warm this week, my friends. I can't believe the windchills these next few nights. Here are some F seedlings I brought with me:

Forty Days and Forty Nights X Absolute Ripper

All four seedlings from Freedom of Expression X Violet Sabrewing came with me. The parents were left behind although I had intended to bring FOE.

I see that Flaming Phoenix is the parent of Fire and Water. John Benz is still living, is he not?

Fear Not is a very vivid color. I must note though that its height is not always consistent here.

Yes, I wish that Flight of Orchids looked like Kate's pictures here. It does okay though. Frieda Allen Jerrell is such a nice lavender; if only it were a faster grower.

I see that Funny Valentine is a Blaney. He has a number of intros with very saturated color.

    Forever Everett --a newer Hanson.

Flying Trapeze stands above neighboring plants.

Of only my Fried Green Tomatoes did as well as Kate's.

Flirts in Skirts --still fairly new here

Faith That Moves Mountains is not a fast grower here. But it does need dividing in the estate garden.

From Sea to Shining Sea is a tall and vigorous Emmerich.

Fight or Flight --Emmerich, out of Alpha and Omega.

Yet another Fear Not. Seems to always be a bitone here.

Farm Girls --I like the shape of this Davisson. Will see how it does here.

For Ever and For Always--a Wilkerson that is a vivid color. This year, it was shorter than usual.

Free the Captives --an Emmerich that has good height.

Mantis - Faith that Moves Mountains and From Sea to Shining Sea look very similar in your photos. Do they look that much alike in person? I had one year when Faith was outstanding both in height and bud count far beyond registration. But most years plant habit has not impressed. I do think the blooms are gorgeous when they're not splotchy. I look forward to seeing whether the Emmerichs that were usually splotchy for me will be that way in the Indy climate.

They do look similar, but Sea has performed much better. Faith is planted next to a boxwood at the estate (the owner is obsessed with border boxwoods). I need to see if there is root invasion. Sea is taller and has been very reliable here.

I forgot Free to Dance, a very nice Korth. Not quite as clean as last year, but 2024 was notorious for blotches in many cultivars. This foursome was quite typical.

Mantis, the last I heard (maybe a year or so ago from Jamie Gossard) John Benz is still alive but he no longer is selling daylilies. At the time I talked to Jamie, he was in a nursing home.
