Also the flooring continues all through closet. My quote to relplace was ridiculous. They just need a good cleaning which will do after remodel.

I would not put these two stones together do a simple plain vanity top with no veining. one solid color. i would not do a free standing tub, but if you do, you will have to replace all the floors.

Your samples above do not go together. I would rethink, what you are wanting to do and how you want it to look.

Agree with other comments regarding the travertine and white marble not coordinating well. I think that you will regret it. It will look much better if you choose a simple, plain creamy countertop with the same undertones as the travertine.

The current counter is an extremely busy granite that has worked just fine. Went to stone yard today. Our floors go perfectly with a white marble. Marble and travertine are from the same stone family. My question was not about the counters but the existing travertine in shower. Decision has been made to remove. Thank you for the advice!

This is the slab. Very pleased. It’s very close to what we have in our kitchen. Durable and real stone.

Research here on house of the pairing of the two. Thank you all! Decision has been made. Will keep tub as is and remove the travertine that’s in shower and surrounding tub with thassos marble.

Make sure you do all new water proofing under that shower. Usually floor should be removed in the shower too, because, the waterproofing from the shower pan will need to be redone too.

I think marble looks perfectly fine with travertine, but they are not in the same stone family. Still, who cares? Travertine is a poor choice in a shower. Fine to remove it if you want. Or you could have it filled and polished and maintained regularly. Marble should not be bleached unless you have dull etched marble already. Maybe that's what you have. It's a nice enough look.

I probably won’t bleach this. I really just had to bleach the travertine because all the nooks and crannies always got mailed out in it. I’ll be so glad when it is gone.

Ha, I see you are coming from the very inclusive definition of family. 🤗Yes, I see your point. I was thinking sedimentary (travertine), igneous, and metamorphic (marble). I still think it's ok to mix rock types.

And here's me wanting travertine floors all through my lower level. Not the golden color you have, but the chocolate color from Iran. Yours looks like the filling in the pits is missing. Was it never there or was it not refilled and buffed regularly. Do you know? Sympathies for the mildew. Yuck!

Have you thought of repurposing your travertine? Maybe you have a concrete patio that could use dressing up? Or maybe your contractor will repurpose it on a different project?

I love the travertine flooring in this bathroom I have done literally nothing besides basic cleaning of it and it doesn’t chip or stain. It also has a soft feeling underfoot that I appreciate. Now this travertine in the shower is a different story. The pits were never filled. Admittedly we haven’t sealed it and I bleach it to clean it which technically is easy but the look of it is not my cup of tea. I am a fan of any natural stone though so go for those floors!

It sounds like you feel having travertine filled is key to its being great vs awful. That's good information for everyone to know. One of the reasons I am so interested in travertine is that any chipping or scratching damage done to it can be fixed by filling. Your experience is valuable to me. Thanks!

I noticed your shower floor is pebble. I couldn't tell from your post if you are going to keep or replace it. I like pebble flooring in a bathroom.

Are you leaving the shower floor and just want to know what flooring might look good under a free-standing tub? I suppose filled travertine if you can match your existing flooring. Or pebbles to coordinate with the shower floor. Wouldn't have to match exactly. What other flooring options are you considering for under the new standing tub?

I have decided to keep tub (researched its a pain to clean around free standing; my tub now is virtually hassle free which as a mom of 4 I need) as is and put new tile around it (possibly even use the counter material). That way I don’t have two different floors. Yes I love the pebble and will either keep what I have or get a different pebble like this;. My contractor is coming out Tuesday to discuss options.

I love pebble too. That one is pretty. I agree it is a pain to clean around the old claw foot tub. Had one years ago. Original 1923 house tub. If HOUZZ existed then I would have tried to restore, but alas, I was SO ignorant. Didn't even have Internet.
