Is a sideboard a good idea here?

I'm considering ordering a sideboard to put against this wall in my kitchen. Nothing currently resides on or against this wall, it looks bare so I thought a sideboard with a great piece of art above it might look good.

So, I pushed the sideboard there from my great room to get a visual before making a decision. What do you think - too cluttered? Too visually heavy?

Couple notes:

1. This is not the sideboard that would go there. This buffet is there only to gauge how things might look; it's going right back into the other room. The new one I'd order would be the same size (76" x 20") as this one but in a rustic style in reclaimed wood to match my kitchen table and chairs.

2. My goal is to repaint. I hate this paint. I don't want to belabor the point because I've whined about it in other posts. In relation to this post, the new wall paint will be drastically lighter (leaning toward a creamy off-white at this point).

A resounding yes from me; I think it’s the perfect spot for a sideboard. Sideboard, art, lamps … would look so nice there.

If you decide to go that direction, I’d relocate the piece (I think it’s a bar?) currently in the window.

That's a cart. Why would you re-locate it? Would you put something else there, maybe a small sitting bench? Or just leave the bay area open?

It’s hard for me to say at this point, before you get the sideboard, repaint, etc. For now, I’d leave it open and try the cart in other spots, then revisit what do there later (if anything).

But if you do use the cart, and it can’t go anywhere else, leave it. Sometimes function needs to go before form. And I don’t think it looks terrible there, I just wonder if there might be a better spot.

"I can’t remember what’s on the other side of the room, but just seeing these views, it would feel sort of unbalanced to me with a sideboard and cart on the same side."

It's an open area that leads into to the great room. It's a main thoroughfare with the patio door on the left, the stairs, kitchen and mudroom off to the right, and the great room directly opposite.

I use the cart for small odds and ends, and potted plants/cuttings over the winter because it faces south and gets bright light from the bay window. I'd consider re-locating it, though.

Here's an older pic showing the patio door to give you an idea:

Ahh, then it might be the best spot for plants. My bar cart is in my living room because I have a big, bulky hutch I love in my dining area that hogs up all the room. :)

Leave it until you get your new sideboard, go from there.

Please show what you get! I’ve always loved pics I’ve seen of your house.

I think a sideboard will be great there but without really have any idea of the space around this and your style the choice might be a the big issue . I am not sure more reclaimed wood id the choice I would make You need a chandelier for sure what is tha little thing in the bay ? Right now IMO thi sis just an empty room with no real direction Can we see your LR that will help a great deal in suggesting a sideboard . I think reclaimed wood is lovelty in small doese when too much it loses its beauty and starts looking like cheap Chinese copy of reclaimed wood . I would like to see some color in the space and why that huge passtrogh thing there ? If you se the bay for palnts then get a proper type unit for there but IMO best left with maybe on potted pant no cart at all.
