Typically, you can make additional holes/outlets in a media console without causing a structural issue.

Many people have used IKEA Besta cubes as the basis for their media console. They are recommended A LOT on audio forums. FYI - the audio/avs forums is where I discovered how the backs can be reconfigured in order to allow for running wires + to allow to air circulation + extra size if one of your components is a little too large to fit inside a Besta.

I've seen many Besta media consoles that you would never know were from IKEA due to the doors/drawer fronts/pulls that have been added. Plus, you will be able to configure it to fit within your range above - you can use all boxes across - or you can create a little empty space where you can place storage baskets/little stools or whatever in order to create the exact length you need.

There are two different heights + you can add shelving where you want inside + have drawers or doors or a combination of both. You can also attach them to your wall in order to make floating console or add legs. IKEA had several different doors available - many people use those and paint them and/or add detail to the plain doors in order to personalize them.

There are also third parties who specifically make doors/drawer fronts to fit Bestas. Also, Etsy has many sellers that sell doors/drawer fronts for Bestas or overlays that you simply add to the front of one of the IKEA doors/drawer fronts. There are also many tutorials on YouTube showing simple ways to update IKEA doors/drawer fronts or make easy doors/drawer fronts yourself.

Bestas are also used to make nightstands/window seats/banquette seating/mudroom benches/dining room buffets/toy storage/etc.

You can make a really nice looking custom Besta media console for quite a bit less money than purchasing one from PB/Crate and Barrel/Restoration Hardware/R & B/etc. while still having it look like a nice piece of furniture. Plus, you can make them any design style you want - I've seen very traditional ones to mid century modern ones - plus, everything in between.
