What flooring materials are your considering and what is used in the rest of your house?

I'd make the tall cabinet the light color.

Are you set on the 2-level peninsula counter? People are mostly taking those out these days it seems.

If you want a true 2-tone kitchen I would probably match the backsplash to the upper cabinets and the floor as well. Unless you want a dark floor you could match it to the lowers essentially-- and match the countertop in tone to the upper cabinet or lower cabinets.

If you have two tones of cabinets, then a tone for the counter, one for the backsplash and one for the floor,--and then a wall color...it's a 5-6 tone kitchen.

I would go for backsplash with the same as countertop.

A slab backsplash will be a higher end choice. But a micro instead of an exhaust hood, gas instead of induction and two-tiered peninsula are the opposite. Is this a condo for 1 or 2? The full 2D floorplan with dimensions would help.

@rebasheba thank you rest if the house has wood flooring, planning to keep tiles here. planning to keep the 2 level

    @dan1888 its a townhouse

Is that closet a pantry? Can you fit a countertop microwave in there? Do a real vented hood if possible. And yes ditch the raised bar top. Can your flooring match the general room flooring? Start with the floor selection before you settle on a countertop. With your U shape layout avoid counters that have a strong linear pattern.

I'm still hoping to see a dimensioned floorplan. I think more can be done with this space. You did say complete renovation.

You can search for old threads with your countertop options:

there's lots of discussions with taj Mahal, it's loved

Maybe settle on the countertop, get samples of everything then select a complementary, low key floor tile

I have a small kitchen, as do my parents. I have done so much research on how to make small kitchens feel larger, I think I deserve a PhD at this point!

Diagonal corner cabinets, two toned cabinets, a change in flooring, and two tiered counters all make a kitchen feel so much smaller -- and you have all of these. I urge you to consider making some different choices in these regards.

Renovating a kitchen is expensive and a headache. I'd love for you to have a kitchen that feels open, pleasant, and more contemporary. Unfortunately, your drawings seem more than a decade old and the space feels smooshed.

BUT -- if you want to go with what you have, get a backsplash that is nearly the same color as your uppers. Get a counter that is also very near in color to your splash and uppers.

If you go with tile flooring, get a color that is similar to your wood floors so they flow from one to the other instead of looking like a your kitchen is a tiny island of tile floating in your living space. For example, if you have dark wood flooring, get a slate toned floor. If you have a lighter toned wood floor, then you should get lighter tiles that compliment the floor, and you should REALLY think twice about kona cabinets.

Thank you for the floorplan. I has hoping for a plan for the entire floor including the kitchen and other areas on this level.

Thank you @Kendrah. going for a two tone as i feel it would be difficult to maintain a full white kitchen but flooring im still not sure and might just keep the same wood flooring thtoughout the house. donyou think any of the countertop i mentioned would go with these cabinets? do you havw any suggestions for countertops. been looking at countertop colors and its all soo confusing

If it's not too late I also have suggestions on the cabinet options. Get rid of the little drawers to the right of the stove - the insides are so tiny it's not useful. I would use that space for a vertical cabinet for baking sheets and cutting boards. for the corner upper I agree with Kendrah. Fabuwood has an easy reach corner cab.

show us some pics of the wood floor please?

@rebasheba was planbing to combine the cabinets near referigerator and make wide deep drawer ones. here is pic of wood flooring

You know I think I'd pass on the Kona color. Sorry to keep pushing on things you have said are settled!

It doesn't sound like you are in love with the two tone for its own sake? and I'm not sure what you mean by maintaining all light kitchen cabinets. I replaced my dark "espresso" cabinets with light wood. (I have dark espresso wood floors with tile in the kitchen) So I can tell you I don't think the dark wood is necessarily easier to maintain, it still showed drips, dings and all of that.

If it's an option to continue and match the wood floor in the kitchen, many people love that.

@rebasheba what did tou mean by match the wood color in kitchen like a lighter wood stain? i really like the espresso dark color but complete espresso woule make the kitchen smaller so going for two tone

Oh I might be confused but I meant matching new wood floor to your existing wood floor. IMO the existing floor you show would not look that great with Kona though.

@rebasheba should i just go with tile the n?

Your wood floor will be fine with your kona color cabinets. If going with taj-mahal, then either use as backsplash, to match the lightest color in quarzite countertop with a neutral slab or tile (stay away from small patterned subway tiles) that compliments the upper cabinets. Lighting plays a huge role when installing darker cabinet colors, so make sure you layer your lighting. You can also add a nice kitchen rug (Ruggable?) to tie in the other elements in your space.

Now, I know corner cabinets are liked by many, but you may want to consider ditching them and just use standard base cabinets. Yes, you would have ”dead” corners, however, it may give you more useable base and wall cabinet space. I would recommend really evaluating what your exact needs for storage are and make adjustments. I also think you would benefit replacing the narrow drawer base next to the stove with a full door base that you can add an organizer (baking sheets, foil, or utensil). If you were to remove your corner wall cabinet, you could replace your 24” wall cabinet(right side of stove) to 33” and your 9” wall cabinet(between microwave and refrigerator) to a more useable 18”. I would also recommend a shallow depth pantry on the long wall opposite the stove.

If you plan to live there long term (over 5 years), then you’re the one you need to please. If it’s short term (under 5 yrs), then make sure you consider your future buyers…keep it more neutral.
