New granddaughter has arrived!!!

I don't know if any of you remember, but I added a post on here almost 9 months ago where I shared the news that my daughter was expecting a baby. She told me IMMEDIATELY after she found out (I was the only one they told) - and I wasn't allowed to tell anyone (not even my three sisters) - so, I decided to share the news with all of you.

Well, she has arrived. She is BEAUTIFUL - but I may be just a bit biased!

Palmer:

I actually took this photo with my phone while changing her diaper - that was the only way I could get a photo with her eyes open (she is three days old in the photo)! Her middle name is Virginia - that was my mom's name (who was in her early 70s when she passed just a few years ago - she had no health issues (except minor cataract surgery a couple years prior to losing her) - so, it was very unexpected.

My daughter's middle name is Angeline - which was my nana's name. I was very close with my nana - and my daughter was very close with my mom/her nana - so, she wanted to continue the "tradition" of using the first name as the baby's middle name. My mom had ten wonderful grandchildren, but my daughter always held an extra special place in her heart.

I was ridiculously attached to my mom while growing up - and we still talked/texted every day. I still miss her terribly - and January has been a difficult month ever since we lost her. Now I have something to make me smile in January!

Funny story - my grandson (Palmer's big brother - who just turned three) is very attached to me (my daughter and SIL constantly say that he is "OBSESSED" with me ❤️). Parker was at my house on Wednesday, and he asked me who was going to be Palmer's nana - when I told him that I'm her nana also, he looked at me (with this very serious expression on his face), and said, "That doesn't seem like a very good idea, nana." 😂

Anyway - just wanted to share some exciting news!

dani, that is one beautiful granddaughter and your photo is a contest winner! Your grandson is precious. What joy these two must bring. Very special to me is her middle name, Virginia, which is my mother's name. My Mom was going to be named Angeline, it was announced in the paper as such. For whatever reason it was changed to Virginia. My Mom's great-granddaughter has been given the name Virginia and for short she goes by Gigi :) I couldn't be happier for you with such sweet little ones to enjoy and treasure!

Oh dani! Such a special and beautiful gift. Your mom can be so happy for you all. Parker and Palmer …so euphonious….love it…and little Parker’s reaction. Reminded me of my dh‘s way of helping lessen our daughter’s feelings., when bringing the new one home. Because the baby wouldnt notice, he’d totally ignore him, giving his full attention to our daughter. Plenty of time when she was sleeping or off playing , for his baby time. Helped with the transition, I think .

Congratulations on your new granddaughter—- she is perfect! Her eyes are beautiful and she already looks like she is making an intelligent, assessment of her new Nana. Your grandson’s reaction is so funny and completely relatable. My nephew came gome from kindergarten one day flabbergasted that his classmates did not have a Lolly —who was called Lolly and looked just like my mother — as he did. He said he was very sad for those children but my guess is he would not have wanted to share his Lolly with anyone either 😎

What a sweet and adorable little one! I love her name. Her given name is also my SIL’s name and I don’t think I’ve heard it used before now. Of course my SIL is quite a bit older (mid-60’s). And our oldest grandson‘s name is Parker and he just became a dad himself about 6 weeks ago, making us great-grandparents. Eek! Still adjusting to that! I love little Parker’s reaction to having to share his Nana!

Understand about the info. lockdown, we had our first grandchild, our grandson Jack, last May. My daughter is very strict on what is being shared beyond my closest friends and family. I just really do not bother sharing anywhere else, just easier that way. Our grandson has family names as well.

Beautiful!!! My granddaughter, who is now 8 years old, looked a lot like your Palmer as a newborn. Eyes are now a clear bright blue and she has blond hair. I too am not allow to share photos or too much info, but wanted to say that my granddaughter was named after both of her great-grandmothers. Her first name (which I will not share) is my mothers middle name. My granddaughters middle name is my mother-in-laws middle name, Virginia. 😉😘

I also have an 11 year old grandson (older bother to granddaughter) that is named after his two grandfathers. Love family names. I also have a very close relationship with my grandson. He is now in middle school and walks to my house after school until one of his parents picks him up. He is more affectionate than my granddaughter. He even gave me an unexpected kiss on the cheek yesterday! I cherished those moments because I know they will be few and far between as the grandchildren age.

Enjoy being with both of your grandchildren. I know you are excited about little Palmer.

I love the tradition of passing on the names. My granddaughter's middle name is Ray. Yes, a girl with middle name Ray. Not Rae. My dad's name was Raymond and my DD was very close to him. He passed a few months before DD's wedding which was very hard on her.
